SoloShot2 - tips? updated use? have questions for other SoloShot-ers
Do any of you have any trouble getting the zoom setting switched? Based on the user manual, LED 3 should be orange when on the tightest setting, but I’m pretty sure it’s still on the medium setting based on the area in the camera view.
I did try the difference, and I did have a vid uploaded to youtube to show a friend the difference, but I must have deleted it bummer.
But the medium is quite zoomed out.

I find mine tends to get tighter over a period of time. So, if I’m videoing a schooling session of say 45mins, it’s zoomed itself in more towards the end.

I tried putting the tag under my jumper today and it worked!
I just moved it down to my left forearm above my watch, still facing outwards. My jumper is like a knitted cotton thing.

I reckon the pocket thing on the saddlecloth would work. If your jacket isn’t too tight on the arms, it might work underneath on the forearms too.

double post

Me again.

I tried using the camera controller with my DSLR camera today (Canon 55OD).
Got some good photos, but it is pretty limited.
No zoom or focus, so you have to only have one spot on the arena that you can have the photos taken.

I had the setting on 15sec burst. My camera does 3 shots per sec.
I found it tricky to be riding, then push the + on the tag (or tap it 3 times), then get your hands back on the reins and look good for the photos! I did move the tag onto my forearm to make it easier.

Also, maybe from trying to canter along and press the + or over tap the tag, I ended up stuffing up everything, and having to turn it all off and start all over again. Twice. Big pain in the neck.
I probably wont be bothered doing this very often!!!

Some pics if anyone’s interested. They have been cropped and fixed up in photoshop.

Another Norsey dressaging

flight- Very cool that you got those pics - I hadn’t even thought of trying with an SLR.

**Another question for folks: when tagging (for riding), what is the height of the object you are zoom in on, then where do you hold the tag when pairing?

I remember a suggestion of zooming in on something that is about 2’ above ground (instead of on the ground, like the surfers do). But then, do I hold the tag itself right at that same 2’ spot, or stand above, or ?? For surfers, I think they zoom to a point on the ground, but then hold the tag while standing to tag? When I do that (so the tag is a few feet above the 2’ zoom object) it still doesn’t center me/the horse well.

Thoughts? I’m trying to get a view for flatwork and jumping, so you can see the horse’s feet but my head & the full jump are also in the pic and (hopefully) centered. I’m using:

 • LED 1 - tilt: green (surf & turf mode)
 • LED 2 - specialty: green (standard mode)
 • LED 3 - zoom: orange (tight frame mode)

MR, I usually zoom on a cup on a jump standard - typically about 18" off the ground. Then to pair the tag I hold it about chest level or the top of the jump standard. It always centers pretty well for me.

Flight, I still can’t get my zoom to zoom in as close as yours on orange. Does anyone know if zoom can be adjusted in tighter by adjusting any settings on the camera?

Don’t you have to change the firmware on the camera controller to switch between the video camera and the SLR.

Yes, you have change firmware between video camera and DSLR. So, wont be doing that often!

Yes, you can manually change the zoom. I used mine to video a friend’s lesson, and I would watch what it was doing through the viewfinder, and I occasionally corrected the zoom. You could try sneaking the zoom in a bit after it’s set itself up??

I centre on an object on the ground and hold the tag about chest height.

Did you guys get the email about the Soloshot3??? I am soooooo tempted to get it!!!

Ack! WHAT TO DO?!?

Soloshot3 - which will allow 30sec setup! + capability indoors! - is coming…and they are offering 50% off for preorders, but must order by the end of THIS month (placed by 10/1).

http://shop.soloshot.com/?utm_source=SS1+and+SS2+Customers&utm_campaign=89a1090005-SS3_Pre_existing_Customers9_24_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_fc49fc2c84-89a1090005-272852977&mc_cid=89a1090005&mc_eid=652a494df0#

Getting rid of the pairing AND being able to use without issue indoors…would be HUGE. Do I do it?

Do you think there will be a market (eBay etc) to resell SoloShot2? I love my Soloshot, so much that I’m tempted to upgrade, esp at the big discount…

Thoughts?

JINX!!!

I was all set to order it!! I’m the same as you, I LOVE my solsohot but the 30sec setup and ability to move the base around has sucked me in big time
BUT for me in Australia, the cost is over $500 even with the discount so I’m just not sure… bit pricey for me :frowning:

.
.
.
.but I reckon I’ll get it

Oh good grief. I just got the email about the Soloshot3 and I fear there is a pre-order in my future… I guess the value of my Soloshot2 just fell by about half, right?

Damn, and I’ve only had my Soloshot 2 for a few months! 30-second set up AND being able to move it while tracking. I want!

And the new cameras! The video quality is my biggest complaint, well, and the set up time. I am going to have to do this. I checked Amazon, which is where I sell all of our used cameras, computers and electronics. Used SoloShot 2s are priced at $450-$480 (without camera) and $500 (with camera) used. I am sure the price will go down a bit, but there will still be a lot of people who will not want to spend the money for the 3.

I just bought the SoloShot2…haven’t even open the box yet. $399 from B&H. Guess I should’ve waited. :frowning:

If the dollar was stronger I would (or if I wasn’t still in Uni lol)… but not with this exchange rate!

Just for people who are ordering it. Put in your order but don’t complete it. I did this and was sent an email about 6hrs later with a survey as to why I didn’t buy it. Complete it, and say price was the issue and they gave me 5% off.
Not a huge amount, but better in my pocket!

Seriously considering using some savings to buy this now!

Which camera did you go with flight?

I just placed my order. In good conscience, I could not go for the extra 5% off.

I ordered the Optic 65 camera as the Optic 25 did not have as much zoom as the Sony that came with the Solo Shot 2 bundle.

Flight: was that for the SoloShot3 pre-order, or are you advising for newbies to SoloShot2???
