SoloShot2 - tips? updated use? have questions for other SoloShot-ers
And then sell me your soloshot2!
I’ll happily sell my SoloShot2 (I have the full camera/base/tag bundle) - just will need to wait until the 3 arrives. Seriously - PM me if you would be interested & willing to wait for March/April. I love my SoloShot!!!

Have anyone done any comparisons with the other remote-tracking cameras that are coming out (vs SoloShot)? I love my SS so happy to stick with the brand, but I keep seeing ads pop up in my Facebook feed for a new company that has another which is coming out soon (also indoor-capable, but not sure about setup time/requirements). Just wondering if there is any reason to comparison shop…or just stick with the product/company I know and commit to the presale.

What is the brand of the other one MR?
Flight: was that for the SoloShot3 pre-order, or are you advising for newbies to SoloShot2???
Soloshot 3 pre-order.

It may work for any order, if you leave it sitting in the shopping cart while you consider hitting the pay now button?
It was a $17 drop. Prob not much but remember our Aussie dollar is shite!

Brydie, I did get one of their cameras. Just the 25.
Although I really could have just got the adapter and stayed with my handycam. But I was a sucker.

Placed my SS3 order this morning. Can’t wait for March! Got the 65x camera to slightly over-comp the zoom on my existing camera and am looking forward to the quick set up the most. Hanging on to the wild man while I run around in circles is rather annoying.

Side note: I’ve got a lightly used SS2 camera bundle for sale

Add me to the list of those of us who have taken “the plunge” into SoloShot 3 territory! Basic base + Optic 65 and the indoor accessory (we did need to buy the indoor part separately, RIGHT??). I wasn’t patient enough to wait the 6hrs for the 5% off - had to just commit.

So, no Christmas / birthday /etc gifts coming up for me in the next many months!

But… the preorder page does say “Share Now” and get an extra $50 off - by posting on Facebook about the preorder. So, I did that! I didn’t see the $50 applied at checkout tho :frowning: so I have an email into SS customer service to check on that. [happy to report that SS customer service came through as always, and applied the $50 refund to me for my Facebook share!]

“Spring 2016” can’t come soon enough!

For the life of me, I couldn’t find it when I tried to look again the other day. I remember it popping up in my Facebook feed (one of hte only ads I’ve every really noticed!). However, it was a kickstarter, so who knows when that company will have it in place. But, it was indoor-compatible which is what I was intrigued by.

Happily committed to stick with SoloShot - their customer service has been WONDERFUL and I have absolutely no complaints about my SS2 - just excited for the new SS3 features!

Yep I tried the share to FB thing, and didn’t get $50 off either. Would have helped as mine was over $500.

But by march next year, I would have paid it off the credit card and the pain of spending so much will be over

Glad I stopped by this post, just in time to order!

BTW, today is the last day to get 50% off…

I wanted the SS3 but it doesn’t work with any camera other than theirs. And theirs doesn’t have the capability of using a remote microphone, like my Sony camcorder does. I use the videos to remember what my lessons taught me, so not having audio is a non-starter. Perhaps if they get an audio setup, or fix it so it works with other camcorders, I will spring for the whole amount.

You can get the 3rd party camera adapter?

Doesn’t work with SS3 inside. Not yet, no promise of when it might be available. And if it is available for some cameras, might not include mine :frowning:

For anyone who missed the 50% off, website now says they are offering “39% off” for SS3 pre-orders by tomorrow 10/15/2015. http://shop.soloshot.com/

FYI - my SS2 (with the Sony video camera) picks up really good audio. Unless the wind is horrible, I can usually hear 90% of what my trainer is saying during lessons, and that’s with the camera outside the arena and her in the middle (so, a good 30’+ away). If she was on the rail near the camera, I bet I could hear nearly everything (without a microphone). No guarantees on that, but I was impressed.

Found the link for the other company making a remote/following camera - http://www.movensee.com (aka “Pixio”) Pricing on their website is in Euros, looks like they are based in France.

Another question for folks: when tagging (for riding), what is the height of the object you are zoom in on, then where do you hold the tag when pairing? I remember a suggestion of zooming in on something that is about 2’ above ground (instead of on the ground, like the surfers do). But then, do I hold the tag itself right at that same 2’ spot, or stand above, or ?? For surfers, I think they zoom to a point on the ground, but then hold the tag while standing to tag? When I do that (so the tag is a few feet above the 2’ zoom object) it still doesn’t center me/the horse well.
Today, I tried zoom into a spot on the rail that was ~2’ above the ground (middle fence horizontal board) and then held the tag right at the same spot (2’ above ground, at the rail board) when pairing. I think that made a great frame - where the whole horse+rider stays in screen, plus a bit of dirt and a bit of sky. Also, I wear the tag in the armband on my bicep.

A quick clip with this setting (tripod is about 20’ back from the arena, on a slope that’s about 6’ higher than the arena):

I don’t have trouble with the vertical centering, more the horizontal.

My soloshot is sh#tting me!

Probably one out of 3 or 4 uses, it just wont pair. I know this has been discussed earlier, but i had a fantastic lesson yesterday and am cranky that it wasn’t recorded.

I’ll do the walk around, come back and press the + on the base with the tag. The tag will try and flash but the base does NOTHING. ARghhhhhhhhh.
I’ve tried turning them both off, rewarming the tag etc etc… but the base just wont do it. Normally I give up then because I’m towing a horse around behind me and it takes too long to re-set up.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong??

Flight:
When did you update your firmware last? That’s the first place I’d start. I’ve been getting emails when they update the firmware, but with an issue like this, I’d just update right now - maybe something happened that caused a glitch in the communication between base & tag. You might as well refresh it all. The most recent firmware downloads for SS2 are here:
http://shop.soloshot.com/pages/firmware-supplement-to-ifu

If that doesn’t solve it, or regardless, I’d call/email SS customer service. They are usually very quick to reply & hopefully would have ideas.

Make sure you press the base’s + first & hold down, THEN press the tag’s +. I recall someone else having issues when they pressed the tag first, then base.

I know, I’m often dragging my horse around behind me during setup, too. :frowning:

On thing I do know: Once paired, don’t let the tag get within ~10’ of the base. When I’ve done that (walked back and set the tag on the ground at the base while I was doing something else; rode by the base really close), it totally threw off the pairing. The camera would look to the sky & then after that it couldn’t follow with me right in the middle. I think it’s because when it gets that close, the GPS coordinates are nearly identical, so it can’t make sense of the base’s position vs the tag. I now just make sure I have the base somewhere I won’t need to ride within ~10’ of, and I set the tag down away from the base after pairing - and haven’t had the centering problem since.

Hi, yep I’ve done that with the firmware. In fact before I use it now, I redo the firmware and make sure it’s fully charged. I’ve emailed customer service who are really, good, they’ve been suggesting all the same stuff (which I’ve done/do anyway). They did suggest holding the +'s for at least 2 sec. Which I’m sure I do, but now maybe I didn’t do it for that long??

I think I might have done the centering too close to the base maybe?? That’s my next thoughts. However, a few times now it will start recording and pair up (you can see on the playback it moving around slightly as I’m putting the tag into the armband) and then it just stops and goes completely still.

Bring on march with Soloshot 3 I say!

So glad that so many are enjoying their Soloshots. I used mine last weekend and today and had zero problem pairing and recording.

If you are having problems pairing, make sure that you are actually pressing where the relay is for the + button. On my base, it is not exactly lined up with the symbol. I practiced pressing it a couple of time without the unit turned on to make sure I knew exactly where it was. Secondly, I always press the + button on the tag first and then the + button on the base, I hold both buttons until the lights flash and haven’t had any problem.

Another thing that will prevent you from recording is if you do not have the video card properly inserted into the camera. This one is particularly insidious as the only indication you get is that it doesn’t record.

Regarding Soloshot 3, I didn’t read the materials too closely but I vaguely remember something about there being a maximum distance that seemed inadequate for equestrian sports, but as I said, I didn’t read it closely.

I sent some video of how it stops tracking etc to customer support and they are going to send me a new base and tag. Just for cost of shipping (unfortunately that will cost me $100 or so).
Pretty generous though!!!
