Soloshot3 troubleshooting

Has anyone set up the Soloshot3 successfully for recording arena work?

I tried using my soloshot3 for the first time and was not able to get it to track properly. After doing the initial installation via Wifi, I took it outside to calibrate it and then to record a ride.

The installation and calibration went well, but the Soloshot3 is not tracking my rides properly. I started the unit and thought it was tracking me because I saw the camera moving, but a review of the video indicated it has some issues. This is what I noticed:

  1. The camera tracked me while I mounted my horse, but as soon as I rode off, it caught about 2-3 strides and then tilted upwards towards the sky. Note: the unit was mounted on a tripod that was about 6 feet behind the mounting block.

  2. The camera appeared to rotate, but was always pointed towards the sky in spite of the fact that it was pointed correctly while I mounted.

  3. The camera only caught me on video when I approached the corner of the arena close to where the base was

  4. In reviewing the video, it split a 1/2 hour video into several smaller ones.

Any ideas how to fix these problems? What settings are people using for tracking their rides?

A few things to consider:

  1. Did you do a ‘walk about’? After calibration I walk around the perimeter of the ring to make sure it’s tracking correctly and this is recommended by the company. There are a few YouTube videos to help explain. If it goes skyward during my walk about then I go fiddle around and try again (sorry I’m not very tech savvy - I usually just turn tracking off/on, check tracking settings, anything that pauses it and causes it to restart tracking).
  2. Be careful of overhead trees/branches as I find that can cause interference with tracking. I especially make sure to go out in the open during my walk about.
  3. There is a Facebook group called soloshot equestrians that’s great for asking questions.
  4. Breaking up into smaller videos is normal, it prevents the files from getting to big.

Hope that helps. I find set up to be a bit of a pain sometimes and then sometimes it works immediately, but the video aspect works really well!
