Solutions for support on turn out

So post tendon injury, my vet recommended wrapping my horses legs with cotton and standing wraps. I also have BOT easy wraps but my horse eats them lol…

Has anyone used just boogaloos or woof boots instead for support? I know they arent as good.

Why would you go against the vet’s recommendation, rather than something that’s not as good?

IMO - it’s better to solve for the “why” he won’t keep standing wraps on before looking for an alternative in this instance.

Have you tried any of the “wrap last” or “bitter yuck” type sprays?

Also, if he’s got an oral fixation maybe he needs something to keep him occupied while on stall rest?

Because she is chewing all the bandages while she’s outside lol… I tried putting a wanted ad for old no bows and cottons etc so I would have enough to last the month. Obviously I will keep using what I have until they are too destroyed to use but I was just curious if people have had good success with regular boots.

@Delaney she is off stall rest and chews them when she is outside. She doesn’t have any leg bandages in her stall. I bought the BOT to use at night sometimes but she chewed the top of one.

Ugh - that sucks.

I had a mare who LOVED the BOT wraps - would get “all fancy” craning her neck/nickering/posing cutely when I got them out. I called them her Louboutins :joy:

Have you tried any of the oral deterrents?

What about a bib, one of those plastic, leather, or neoprene guards that attach to the halter under the jaw?

Have you tried something other than BOT wraps? Wondering if they bother the horse and just cotton with a standing wrap or such would not be an issue.

If it was me I would order a couple of different things that fit into the description the vet gave, before trying to use something that is not as the vet suggested.

Do you live somewhere that Amazon does not ship or there is no tractor supply?

When I had to turnout in standing wraps, I put my fly boots over them (Kensington’s.)

That’s a very good point!

BOT do run warm - could that be part of the issue?

I turn her out with standing cottons or no bows (not the BOT) and she eats them all haha… ill see if I can find the spray stuff though to see if that will deter her.

She doesn’t chew anything else lol
