Some Big European Shows are Bucking the New FEI Nations Cup Rule

Aachen withdrew in February.

I can read the word…I have no clue what it means in practical terms. Can someone translate?

I had the same problem understanding. I think this article explains it in a more comprehensive manner

In short, my understanding is that Aachen (and presumably others who have withdrawn) want only to invite pairs that are highly qualified (ranking on the FEI rider chart) vs the new FEI invitation rules which state that every national federation must be invited with no exclusions.

Aachen in withdrawing from the Nations’ Cup also gives itself the room to refuse to invite riders who aren’t “in good standing” (my speculation is in situations like when Russian athletes were disinvited from international competition due to Current Events).

Basically, FEI wants to make it a “everyone gets an invitation!” but Aachen and others are saying “no, we only want to invite the best.”

Thanks…this is very helpful. Which makes one wonder if there is a back story to this…
