Songbird returns!

From Fox Hill Farm’s FB page…

I am giving a quick update on Songbird. She came out of her work in great shape. Jerry texted me for several days after her work just saying “SONGBIRD PERFECT, JH” Entries for the Summertime Oaks is tomorrow, 6/15. They are expecting a five or six horse field. Let’s get a good post.

Songbird will be returning in the Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita Saturday afternoon (i.e., yes, she was officially entered).

Curious in the card shown on The Bloodhorse’s page it shows weight for all at 120 except Songbird is 124?? It’s a grade II stakes for 3 yo fillies…

You need to look at the conditions for the race. It probably says something like: “All horses to carry 124 pounds. Non winners of a GI since XXX get a 4 pound allowance”

Thank you

Non-winners of a Grade I or Grade II at One Mile of Over since December 18, 2015 allowed 2 lbs,: Non-winners of a Graded Stake at a mile or over allowed 4 lbs.

Didn’t realize this type of thing existed…

Not Now Carolyn and Coppa scratched so this should be a paid work. But, TVG said a few of the clockers (including Ron Ellis) had said they didn’t think she was training a 100% and it is hot out in Arcadia today…

She should still win… PT 5:00PT

nb. the typo in the quote is from the PDF of today’s final program …

Any news?

Won easily in a canter. Barely broke a sweat in 90+ degree heat.

Well she’s proven she’s still got it
They won’t be running her against the boys anytime soon, no biggie…
but now that she’s shown to be back in good form, at least find her some top fillies/mares to run against. Time to step up to better quality company.

I was gonna ask… if you were Songbird’s connections, where would you target her next race.

There was no challenge at all IMO. Mike just sat chilly and let it be an afternoon workout.

She needs to be tested by something to know how good she really is

What a nice filly. And I loved Mike Smith’s comments. I wonder how she feels compared to Big Z?

Report in the Blood Horse today has her headed east for:

CCA Oaks at Saratoga (or Delaware Oaks at Delaware)
Alabama at Saratoga
Cotillion at Parx

And then back to Santa Anita for the Breeders Cup.

Haskin does it again .

Hear hear, and read, read. Wonderful writer with great subjects. Thanks for the link, Shammy.

It seems appropriate that with Beholder running in the west today that Songbird will be racing in the East.

When does the race start? How can we view it?

Race goes off at 618

Or if you have TVG it will be shown.

6:18 ET

Alabama is the 10th on the card.

The Four Star Dave (cancelled from last weekend due to weather) is race 9

Well that looked easy for her. What a lovely filly!

I would agree, another paid workout.

Slow pace for sure but enough for her to win easily. Second betting favorite didn’t hit the board.

Would like to see her against the boys at some point

Not going to happen this year. Cotillion and BC Distaff are what’s left this year from what the connections said.

That’s what I heard… no boys this year for Songbird but sounds like they are planning on bringing her back for her four year old year.
