Songs for relaxing the beast...

I sing “Wade in the Water” too!

I sing “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley. The lyrics are perfect, and I think the horse likes reggae…

OMG! I didn’t see that the first time around. That’s too funny!

Hay

The Postal Service - anything

Is there really a band called The Postal Service??? Arh, arh!

Hay 2

In concert…I can just hear it, the announcer screaming…“And now The Postal Service…” And the fans go wild with excitement, screaming, women throwing their bras on stage…

It sort of is a bit of an oxymoron…people going wild with excitement over The Postal Service…Arh, arh!

Singing and Hunters

Actually, that’s a good point; since I’m often singing to Herself (who, like A2’s horse, pops her head up and swivels her ears back when I stop singing), I don’t worry too much about hunters. I figure any hunters are writhing in agony on the ground (my voice is nothing that’s going to attract bluebirds to sit on my shoulder or Disney animals to frolic around my feet. Also, I figure any deer will hear us coming and leave sooner rather than later, so Fanny doesn’t have to spook at them.

And yes, I have been caught loudly singing the song about having ravioli on your chin, in a fake Italian accent, waving one arm grandly in the air, and coming around a corner only to find a group of walkers/mtn bikers laughing at me. Several times I’ve been asked if it’s the horse singing. Should I be insulted? Should Fanny be insulted?

Singing

i sing whatever comes to the mind … usually from church/synaogogue when i want to rate his tempo. … If i’m singing’ too fast… oops… come back… helps my nerves too on the arab:D

I like country hits, and even though I was not given the gift of voice my horse does not care! George Strait- All Night!

I get the best results from my girl by singing along to something slow and sweet, maybe Johnny Mathis’s “Twelfth of Never” or the Platters “Only You”, while we are dancing to the real thing on the CD player…

Oh, Wait! Y’all are talking about singing to the horse! Um, ok. Usually I stick with some of the old cowboy songs that have already been mentioned. Old country, like Hank Williams Sr.'s stuff, works good too.

One time I did pass under a deer stand while singing. I had been oblivious to all the world except for my horse, the ground in front of us and the words to “Nobody Answers When I Call Your Name.” Then a deep voice from above, laughing, said, “With a voice like that it’s no wonder she’s gone.”

These days I try to be more observant before I break into song. I do agree that singing, particularly when riding alone, helps to calm the horse.

Oh my darlin’ Clementine…and whatevers in my head at the time…yes I hear songs in my head…doesn’t everyone!!!:lol::lol::winkgrin:

And we were trailriding this summer behind a house where someone had their stereo blaring and clearly my filly doesn’t like Don Henleys “Desperado”. She went to pieces with Dons singing in the woods! So I sang it to her all the way home…she LIKES my version!!!

And yes I’ve had a similar experience with deerstands! Talking to my horse and a voice answers!! They must think we’re nuts!!

Okay, some cornball time here, I used to use some childhood song which I do not know the name of, it goes:
“Horsie, horsie, don’t you stop, just make
your feet go clippety clop, let your tail go
swish and the wheels go 'round, giddyup,
I’m homeward bound. I like to take a horse
and buggy, I like to travel through the town,
I like to hear old ____ feet clop, I like to watch
the wheels go round”. repeat the above until you
sick of the whole thing or past the item/s.

I also like to recite poems but singing is definitely
the best.

I like to sing songs from Oklahoma too. Any of the
musicals would do but I am most familiar with Oklahome.
I guess I like that silly “Buggy with the fringe on top” and the
theme song which I like to sing at the top of my voice.

I also like spirituals if I am getting serious. Try “Deep River”, or “Going Home” tune known from Braham’s “New World Sympohony”, which he got from the spiritual.

I also like something which I don’t know the name of, first line is “Ezekiel sp? saw the wheel, way up in the middle of air”. This is fun, gives me things
to think about singing as I clean stalls which I am too shy to do with people
in the barn.

You sound like you have fun, I would love to go riding with a singing trail rider.
