Sooo, has anyone parked and taken a bus to KHP?

I’m driving in on Friday from Louisville and am curious if anyone has parked off site and taken Lex Tran/bus to the horse park? If so, where did you park and how close did they drop off? What about the return trip? Trying to decide if it’s worth it to try or just pay the $20 for parking. Also, since my tickets are for the freestyle and it starts in the evening, I probably won’t get there until around noon, which I think should cut down on traffic.

I am bumping this as I really want to know the answer to this too!

From what I can tell per the internet sites, the Lextran bus drops off in the front parking lot of the main entrance of the Park.

Is there adequate parking somewhere that Lextran picks up? Hoping someone here has the answer…

Apparently not?

I think I’m going to just pay the $20. But, I know there are only ~1000 parking spaces? So if I get there later in the day and the spaces are sold out, what then? Do they have people directing you as to where to park?

Caitlin

I’m getting there pretty darn early (although who knows if that will be early enough) so I hope so! Especially for your sake!

I parked downtown and rode LexTran. I’m local, so I just parked at a friend’s house, but my understanding is that the parking lots around Rupp Arena (where the Hyatt is located) have plenty of open spots. Last I heard parking there was $5. I caught the bus at the Hyatt and it was pretty smooth and uneventful. Kind of a party-type atmosphere, actually. We were dropped off at the security check-point, which is centrally located. I’d recommend the bus–cheap and fun!

There is a lot of parking along the route downtown, but expect to pay $5-10. There is also a stop on Newtown Pike by Embassy Suites/Marriott. I don’t think you can park at either of those hotels unless you are staying there, BUT there is an office park directly across from the Embassy Suites on Aristides Blvd. There were a ton of open spaces, and no signs about limited parking. I parked there for free and walked to the bus stop. Total walking time less than 5 minutes, and total cost $2. You can’t beat that!

The Spy Coast Farm/$20 cash lot is 65 acres (just east of the KHP campground entrance on Iron Works Pike), estimated to hold 11,000 cars.

There is supposed to be an overflow contingency plan (not needed yet), and there are portable roadside message boards with info like “WEG PARKING -->”

The KY Transportation Cabinet has a mobile “incident management center” set up nearby & there are a ton of law enforcement/traffic control folks.

So far, traffic flow appears to be working quite well.

There is free parking at Coldstream behind the Embassy Suites on Newtown Pike. I just confirmed with LexTran that you can catch the bus to WEG in front of the Marriott. My husband says $1 each way, but I forgot to confirm that with LexTran.

Yup, just a buck

I’m here at WEG now. I ended up just paying the $20, and there were still spaces at KHP around 1 today when I got here.

FYI you can park at Spindletop Hall across from/just past the KHP for $15, and then it is $5 for their shuttle which drops you off pretty much right at the gate to the WEG. I believe they have had plenty of room.
