Sore on dog's lower lip - UPDATE - nothing serious!

Okay, this is kind of a weird question, and I’m definitely vet-bound with the dog in question. (I’ve seen a dog with oral cancer that started in the lips and it scares me).

But one of mine has developed a swollen sore spot on his lower lip, right where his canine tooth comes in contact with it. I’m wondering if he:

A - bit it by accident
B - picked up a splinter or some kind of debris and there’s a little infected pocket there

or

C - is it possible that the canine tooth just rubs that part of the lip to the point where it gets tender and sore? I’ve seen dogs who seem to have sort of pendulous lips and wondered if that was ever a problem.

Again - we ARE going to the vet! It’s money I don’t really need to be spending right now, but I need the peace of mind.

Is it wet and/or open or is it encapsulated under the skin? One of mine had a lump on upper lip near the nose that ended up after surg/biopsy to be infection stemming from an infected hair follicle–that was the last time I shaved my dog’ s whiskers! Vet had me terrified it would be cancer…

Your possible causes sound reasonable to me, but I’m like you–to the vet we go for anything funky.

Fingers crossed that its nothing serious!

Well, I feel sort of like a bad dog owner.

Simon loves to pick little bits of plastic and junk off the floor and just nibble on them - we call them his “little nibbly things” and of course take them away if we see he’s got something. An example would be those little plastic thingies that hold tags on clothing - we have to be very careful when we remove them from new clothes. If one falls on the floor, it’s guaranteed that Simon will find it and nibble on it. I make my husband cut his nails over the toilet, because yes, I have found the dog chewing nail clippings.

Well, he got ahold of a plastic bristle that fell out of my hairbrush, and it got embedded in his lip, resulting in a little inflammation. No pus or abscess, but in a couple of days that probably would have been the end result.

You can already tell he feels much better. And yes, I am tossing that hairbrush!

So glad for sheepishly happy ending…I’ve got a 12 wk old pup, and am finding all sorts of tiny things she would enjoy consuming!
