Looking for a soundproof bonnet for my spooky boy, but he unfortunately has a rather large set of ears on him and the Equiline soundproof ears are too short on him.
Any recommendations for those bigger eared horses?
De La Coeur or Talisman usually have some ready-made soundproof ears available. They’re both on Facebook or you can google their websites. I would mention when you email them that he has larger than normal ears.
And if you want to add bling or piping to the ready-made ones, they’ll do that for you!
Bigdweb.com has an Ear Hood that comes with rubber cones that fit inside of the ear parts, and most Standardbreds have kind of large ears so they would most likely fit your guy. It would be under the Standardbred racing tack section.
Have you tried using cotton in his ears under a normal bonnet?
Just here to say thank you for posting this because I did not even know these things existed and now am excited to try one on my super sound-sensitive guy!
What about Pomms? Not an ear net but an ear plug that has actual scientific backing.
A friend bought me a bonnet made by Eskradron when in Europe. My guy is 18.2 and has large ears and it fits him. I don’t know if you can find this online.
Are you guys allowed to use ear plugs? We are not. We can use bonnets made from thick fabric but not the ear plugs.
The Eskadron lined bonnets run big and are too big for my regular sized horses.
Sierra of If the Bonnet Fits ( on Facebook and Instagram I think) has made me a couple of really nice custom soundproof bonnets. They are my favorite and I like the ears more than my De La Coeur lined one. She does custom sizing too.
We use ear plugs in hunters because ears (bonnets) aren’t allowed. I’m sure every discipline can ear plugs, but not 100% sure on that. I know they’re used in hunters, jumpers and eventing around here, but no idea about dressage rules.
The Schockemohle soundproof bonnet has really big ears.

Thanks for the information.
I use the Schockemohle soundproof bonnet and it works great, but I pair it with ear plugs. They definitely fit larger than average, so they may be good for your dude
Yep, Shockemohle ones are the biggest and most soundproof I’ve found. If you’re in a situation where you can use earplugs, the best sound dampeners I’ve found are cat toys - the soft foam 1.5 inch soccer balls. They form-fit and work better than horse ear plugs.
I used those before and my guy got sores inside his ears from them, apparently he can’t have the foamy type material in his ears so I have to use those fuzzy style ones. I feel like the foam style might be better from a sound barrier stand-point, but the fuzzy ones are easier to get in and out. And they come out quite easily via head shaking lol .
