I really want to put stall mats in our stalls. We have 3 and they’re different sizes. I want interlocking rubber mats and have been searching for the last hour and have had some success. FWIW, we’ll probably be on this property at least10 years and I want something that will last. Does anyone have good sources? Freight appears to be outrageous. Thanks!
They are HEAVY (explains the high freight charges)!!! I ordered mine from The Rubberman. A friend of mine ordered hers from Mat World, I think. They deliver to your driveway and then it’s on you to get them to the barn. The pallets they delivered on were over 1,500lbs, which was way more than my small farm tractor could pick up and safely move. I had to divide the load into just under 1/2 to move them the 1/3 of a mile (over hill and dale/not flat) to get them to the barn.
My my friend measured her stalls and had them cut to fit (higher price), as she was installing them herself. I had someone installing mine that was able to cut to size as necessary, which was minimal as we took measurements and then the company I used made the puzzle fit almost perfect. We only needed to cut from one end.
Best advice on here for moving them to to se C clamps. Again they are heavy and not the easiest to move.
You need a smooth, level, compacted base to keep the joints seamless. I’m looking forward to moving my horses into these stalls. The current set up had not quite perfectly fit mats that had gaps and they had started to curl up on the edges, which hasn’t been fun to muck.
We got our mats from Tractor Supply, (the 4 x 6 3/4" type) but they weren’t interlocking, so probably not what you are looking for. I had a heart attack when I saw those freight charges that you found, LOL, and decided that I’d use the ones I could get locally! As mentioned above, those suckers are HEAVY and not going anywhere, and we also fit them to the stalls so there is not any room for them to shift around. (After reading lots of different methods on here, I used a circular saw and found the trimming wasn’t bad at all, for what it’s worth.)
Jawa’s point about ensuring you have a smooth, level, compacted base is spot on, by the way.
I also used the 4x6 mats from Tractor Supply. Definitely agree with the comments regarding the base. We spent significant time making sure our base of stone dust was level and compacted. Then we cut the mats for as tight of a fit as possible. It’s been a year and we haven’t had one mat shift or lift up in the barn isle that gets lots of traffic.
I used The Rubberman a couple of years ago and was very pleased. I contacted a “chat help” person as I have true 11x12 size stalls and most of the mats I looked at measured a few inches short. They custom cut a larger size for not much more than the standard mat.
I did 17mm mats and the C-clamps were a must for moving. They’ve been super sturdy, but we spent a lot of time getting the base level and packed. The interlocking tabs were super tight so I found a hoof pick to be the perfect tool to get them to lock properly.
I found 11 of mine on Craigslist, from someone breaking down a home gym. He bought them from Tractor Supply a few years earlier. Great price, but it took me days of checking to find them.
If you have a Rural King near you, they have the best price I’ve found.
Not sure how bad freight would be, but Linear Rubber will cut to fit your measurements. Instead of a lot of pieces they can do your stall in 2 pieces. They will come rolled up and banded. Just roll into your stall and cut the bands.
There’s one within 150 miles, so that’s great! Great price too!
