South Suburbs of Chicago Boarding Scene...

I’m trying to move barns at the moment and am looking for the impossible (in the illinois boarding scene) - a barn that is 800 (or under) per month for board and has good footing in arenas and grass turnout- the only catch is that it must be under an hour from Frankfort/Mokena, IL…

so…no Zion, Barrington Hills, Libertyville, Elgin, etc…they are much too far for me to drive 6 days a week.

I would prefer a hunter/jumper barn, but at this point I will board anywhere as long as I can trailer out for my own lessons.

If you have any suggestions that fit what I’m looking for, please comment or private message me! thank you so much in advance!

There is not much in that area with what you want that probably isn’t full. Kerry Meadows or Grazeland are probably your best options. I moved from that area 2 years ago if you want to pm me questions about barns.

A friend has a barn in Cedar Lake IN - 45min from Frankfort, 55 from Mokena - that ticks all your boxes except it is not H/J.
Boarders are mainly Western, but there is no breed snobbery I have heard or seen.
I do not board there, mine are at home, but I am there occasionally.
One gal even asked for my help (knowing I ride English/Dressage) with a gaited horse she was working for another boarder.
Board is 1/2 your #, grass turnout in large fields daily (as weather allows), though IIRC, no turnout by staff on weekends. Big indoor.
You would be able to trailer out whenever you wanted. Limited trailer parking.
PM if you want more info.

You can try Winsom Farm in Beecher, IL (https://www.facebook.com/Winsom-Farm-237602709694075/) primarily Eventing with very experienced owner/trainer.

Also contact Ken Borden Jr. at Lil Bit Farm in Wilmington, Il (https://www.facebook.com/ken.j.borden) Dressage rider/trainer/judge and breeds Swedish Warmbloods.

Either farm is less than 30 minutes from Mokena/Franfort area, and might have what you want, or put you in touch with a local, private barm that suits your needs and desires. Good Luck!
