No word yet from San Diego Chapter/California Dressage Society about protocols for their June 16 show in Temecula. Hunter/jumpers seem to be proactive with communicating to exhibitors when the outbreak first began, and requiring on site inspections at shows.

I heard that the Flintridge show had to juggle ride times to account for the number of people forced to scratch.

this went around the west coast before, quite seriously if I remember correctly

I do hope everyone plays by the rules and takes this seriously

CDS just sent something out on Facebook. In a nutshell, gives an overview of the disease and says competition management is working with USEF on protocols.

Very informative webinar by USEF and USDA yesterday about the virus.
USEF covered show protocols, and USDA vet covered the virus.

It’s the first time in 50 years there’s been a VS outbreak in California.
The USDA vet in the webinar yesterday explained that it’s because we “have water where we didn’t have it before” due to the heavy rains last winter. The vectors that spread it follow the water; black flies (moving water), and midges/cullocoides (still water).

Could have thought colorado had an issue, blurry memory

Colorado definitely had it a few times. I remember that one of the horses that was qualified for NAYRC in 1997 (in Illinois) wasn’t able to go because the horse was in Colorado during a VS outbreak and it had a positive titer for the disease. That was such a bummer for her.

Fox Canyon is still having their show this weekend (6/10) with an attending vet and protocol for examining horses before allowed into stabling area.

Today’s June 6th notification confirms it’s now in Orange County.

LA Chapter of CDS cancelled their upcoming show at LAEC.

Galway Downs shows appear to still be held.

Just looked at the newest report; now in LA County and 1 case in Texas

Fox Canyon Farm (formerly Spirit) kept it’s show last week and as a volunteer there, it was very well run. A good start for the new owners. However now they are restricting horses going in/out just as a preventative.

I know of several places that are locking down.

On a side note, I see it’s under new ownership. Why? I knew the Knowles from back before they bought it.

Never mind, I googled and learned that Richard passed away. Sad to hear that.

The sale was going through before Richard’s untimely and unexpected passing. The Knowles had been looking for the “right” buyer for several years and finally found one several months before.

Richard was an amazing guy, they led an amazing life.

It’s now in Ventura County.
Meanwhile, over 40 barns are under quarantine in San Diego.
For shows at Galway Downs/Temecula, they’re doing massive fly control measures so USEF will allow them to stay open. Still, it seems split on those who want to stay home, and those who still want to show.
