I’ve read some articles about soy sensitivity and I’d like to try and remove it from my horses diet to see if there is any difference in his insulin levels. He is currently on a ration balancer, insulin wise, and low sugar hay free choice but maintains a higher than average insulin level. I don’t want to remove the grain completely as I don’t think he will maintain condition on hay alone. I didn’t realize how prevalent soy was in horse feeds, it is in all my usual go tos. Does anyone know off hand of any soy free low sugar grains or ration balancers? Must be available in Canada. TIA
I don’t know what you can get in Canada, but two feeds I know that are soy free are: Triple Crown Balancer Gold, and Bluebonnet Limited.
Purina Omega Match is also soy free, IIRC
This is what I was going to suggest.
I feed mine soaked beet pulp and a vitamin/mineral balancer. Zero soy.
A ration balance isn’t providing so many calories that a horse should lose condition in the 2-3 weeks you’d need for an elimination diet
I don’t know that you have many options, if any, in CN. Purina Omega Match is a US product. I know TC isn’t available up there. I don’t know if Tribute ships there, but if so, Wholesome Blends Balancer is soy-free
Oetherwise, since you’re just using a ration balancer, it’s probably easiest to go with MadBarn Omniety and a couple pounds of hay pellets for the calories.
Not sure if it’s available in Canada, but I use Tribute Wholesome Blends Ration Balancer…really nice feed and soy free.
