soybean, soybean oil, soybean meal

Soybean oil and meal-
want to learn why people use this? can someone shed some light on the perks of this?

High in protein is my reason.

I mix feed for my horses, milk cow , herd of Boer goats & chickens . I use soybean meal or roasted soybeans for the protein and I can adjust it according to how much per 100 pound batch I make.

I haven’t been using much in my horses feed because They are easy keepers and I keep it at a 12%. The others are 16-18%. I like the flexibility it gives me and that I am not dealing with a bunch of different things.

People add oil to their horses feed for varying reasons.

Oil for weight gain, meal for protein and high concentration of essential amino acids.

Soy meal is in almost all extruded/pelleted feed products since it is higher in protein than other components of horse feed.

The main reason not to feed it, is if your horse has a sensitivity, or if the phyto-estrogens make your mare extra skanky.

Any kind of oil would be for extra calories on a hard keeper.

I’ll add that soy hulls are also common, and can be a better choice for horses who are sensitive to soy estrogens, as there are fewer in the hulls than in the meal.

And note that raw soybeans are toxic, just in case anyone was thinking it was cheaper to feed them out of the field
