430+ years of time-tested dressage training from the renowned Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria is coming to Santa Rosa this January as SRS Bereiter Herbert Seiberl instructs a dressage clinic at Santa Rosa Equestrian Center Friday, January 22 - Sunday, January 24, 2010.

Riding slots are currently available. Cost is $195 per lesson and each rider receives a $20.00 Dover Saddlery gift certificate.

Herbert is a fabulous instructor - excellent English, effective and clear communicator, very kind and patient, and a beautiful rider. He has been at the Spanish Riding School for 16 years and also has private students and horses in training in Austria who compete successfully in the show ring. Herbert is one of only two Bereiters who perform the Long Rein work in SRS performances.

He demands correct work but is very encouraging throughout the lesson, and is wonderful with riders of all levels as well as both ammies & pros. He is just as good at starting changes and piaffe/passage and tweaking canter pirouettes as he is helping a lower level rider develop throughness and begin lateral work.

The Spanish Riding School Bereiters only get time off in January and July and there are only 12 Bereiters at the SRS so opportunities to ride with them are limited. I hope you can join us in January!

Would be great to see you guys there. Seb, if Santa Rosa is too far away and you’re interested in auditing or riding, Herbert will be in Agoura Hills/Thousand Oaks area in July. And Marius Schreiner will be in Olivenhain in January for a clinic at Dove Hollow Dressage.

I’ve never gotten to see Arthur teach - I have his videos, but I’d love to see him in person. I don’t think he comes near Michigan (where I’m from), though!

I agree that they’re worth the investment - I save up all year so I can ride with them! The SRS guys really changed me as a rider, both mentally and physically. I have a feeling I’d still be in the perpetual struggle at 1st/2nd Level at this point and time… and of course I have a loooong way to go, too.

Awesome!! If you pre-register, please write your Chronicle name on the reg. form so I know who you are. If you are a walk-in, tell me when you’re registering at SREC (I’m pretty sure I"ll be at the reg. table) - would love to meet you. Same goes for anyone else - it’s great to be able to put board names to faces.

IMHO Arthur is much, much, much better in real life clinic than his videos. He can make it happen and it is like magic riding with him. Its thanks to him that my mare went to PSG level.

Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg was born in 1945 and has been a member of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna since 1960. In 1980, he was made First Chief Rider and is the youngest person to have held this post in the 400 years of the School’s history. He is a trainer and instructor of the highest international repute who has successfully trained riders and horses up to Olympic medal standard.

Its a two year long story with tendon issues I am having with my older horse He had the surgery done in July and we were nicely rehabbing, and then he got lame literally overnight in December and was getting progressively worse.
After several weeks or tests, X-rays, and stall rest, he was due for shoes and farrier proposed full pads. Jaxon got 99% better the very next day Total mystery where exactly the pressure is gone, with miriad possibilities, which I am not ready to even start researching. He has been fine for several last weeks, but we missed the opportunity to ride in a clinic. What a shame

There will be more clinics; it’s good that he is doing better now. Some things take about 6 month to heal to the point that you can’t re-injure them back up. Good luck!

Sorry for chiming in late on this! I’ve been doing the two Michigan clinics since last Thursday and have had limited Internet access.

DA, I’m working on the latest draft of the schedule and will be posting it online as well as mailing it out to those who are on the SRS Santa Rosa clinic list (for anyone, if you’re not on it and would like to be, please drop me a line and I’ll add you). Am also working on auditor information and will post that online as well.

Equus_Girl - oh no, so sorry!! Didn’t realize that was your horse Chrissy was referring to. How disappointing for you. I’m glad he’s doing better, though. There is room for auditors - looking forward to meeting you this weekend!

Speaking of places to stay, I haven’t booked a place for Herbert and me to stay yet. Any recommendations for a place that’s relatively close to SREC, nice but not too $$$?

Thanks for posting times! I cannot wait to tell my husband about 4am wake up call on Saturday to get to Santa Rosa by 7am to help Chrissy Betcha he will be thrilled maybe we should just get there on Friday night and stay over.
