Speaking of biothane harness--came home today to sparkling clean harness!

The harness-cleaning fairies definitely visited my house today. I’ve owned my biothane harness for about six or seven years, and I must confess, I’ve never given it a really thorough cleaning. I wipe it down well after every drive but I admit to being lazy about getting after every inch of it.

I asked my husband yesterday to pick up some Dawn liquid for me for cleaning it, planning on working on it evenings this week. Instead, I came home to harness that looks like new.

I would never treat a leather harness the way I’ve treated this biothane one–it would not come back from that amount of neglect. But the biothane harness looks like I just got it brand new.

Husband said he used his special car wash soap on it, soaked it in a bucket for a little while before scrubbing, and it didn’t take a lot of elbow grease to clean.

He said he thought Dawn would be a little too harsh, since it is what he uses to strip wax off the cars. The car wash soap, on the other hand, doesn’t strip wax.

Now I need the cart-cleaning fairy to show up, since no way will I hitch to that filthy cart! I guess I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow night…

Lucky You!

That was a great surprise!

For our Zilco washing, the Dealer recommended Ivory Liquid dish soap for washing. Said that is what she uses for washing before a show, gets great scores on Presentation. Ivory and a soft brush to rub off dirt has done a pretty good job for us, though we also are not great at washing it often. Does get hosed off regular, when we hose off the horses after working! Just do horse and harness together!! Then hang harness to dry, turn the horses out to pasture for air drying.

No keeping the dust off vehicles in the barn, since it is all open and the wind blows thru all the time. They get washed to go someplace.

Guess we know too! Celebrating with hubby and rewarding him for cleaning your harness!

It was finally a nice evening with no lightning, so I went for a bike ride instead of cleaning the cart. Karma bit me–broke a spoke a mile from my car, and I can’t walk a mile due to rheumatoid arthritis. So now the wheel is seriously out of true.

I should have stayed home and cleaned the cart!

Hang on to THAT husband!!! We switched to Bio years ago when we had a team. When we spent more time cleaning/oiling the leather harness than we did using it, it was the obvious choice!!

As an experiment, I spritzed my biothane harness with some of that stuff to make black car tires shiny. Really looked good and didn’t seem to attract filth.

Shoulda stayed home and celebrated hubby!

Husband is definitely a keeper–35 years together and I’m still nuts about him.

He hasn’t said anything about my bike wheel yet, but I saw my bike sitting in the store room up on the repair stand missing the rear wheel, so I’m thinking he took it to get fixed. He is awesome!

The pony cart, however, is still filthy. I think that will be tomorrow night’s project since I got home from work very late and it’s been stormy since I got here.

Rebecca

Bike wheel is fixed and on the bike, and the cart-cleaning fairy came today! He power-washed my cart and it looks great.

I’m sure we’ll go slogging through mud tomorrow and I’ll get everything back to the normal level of yuck, but at least everything is clean for a day.

Rebecca

Everything with horses is transient. Enjoy your clean moments!

So true, goodhors. And it definitely did not last.

Rebecca

Gee, I use Dawn to clean mine… maybe I will switch to something else.

Husband thought Dawn would be too harsh. Since he was doing the cleaning, he got to choose! It certainly turned out gorgeous.
