Special food to reduce pet dander

My parents are moving and are not taking one of their cats. I would love to have it except my husband is mildly allergic.

he is mostly an outdoors cat and he would not come into our room. I have heard or something you can sprinkle on you cats food to reduce allergens. Has anyone heard or used this and where can you get it? Does it have to be through a vet OR a Dr.?

(Also this is an agreed upon addition to our family NOT something I would do in-spite of my husband)

Any fish oil/omega 3 oil or high quality food will help with dander. I don’t know of a powder like the one you desceibe, maybe ask your vet.

When my cat got Pancreatitis I upgraded her to non grain food (EVO, Taste of the wild) and gave her a vitamin paste (made with what looks like molasses) with Taurine.
For the first time in her 12 years her dandruff disappeared.

There’s a product you can buy at Petsmart that is supposed to reduce dander- it’s a spray, and you wipe the cat down with it.

That said, I’m mildly allergic to my cats. I bathe them every other week or so, and brush them regularly with a Furminator (which is WAY BETTER than a regular brush).

Puck has been bathed since he was teeny tiny and never minded. I got Peri at 11 months and it took him 2 or 3 baths to adjust. Now it’s no big deal. It takes about 3 minutes per cat. They don’t fight or scratch- they just stand and look sad while I wash 'em off, then sit around damp and kinda p!ssed off until they’re dry. An hour later it’s like nothing happened.

I have 0 problems with allergies. And they don’t shed on anything.

I have a very specific process to make it as quick and painless as possible, and have successfully bathed a number of cats this way. If you’re interested I can elaborate.

I second the high quality, grain free food. My three never have dander/flaky skin issues and their fur is soft, shiny, and gorgeous (and I don’t brush them regularly at all :uhoh:). I have heard that wiping them down with a damp cloth daily will greatly reduce dander, but not tried it myself…or you could try LPF’s bathing technique (not sure what my cats would think of that one…I will now have to tell them that I’m a good kitty mama because I don’t bathe them regularly ).
