Spin off: John Deere one family sub compact

Ok…not at all sure? If I’m going for the new one with the 5 yr 0% financing deal…but IF I am…that deal also allows $1500 off IF you buy two or more implements.

IF I do it, the FEL is a must have. What are your votes for the ‘second’ one?

TIA

The second implement should be something you might use to maintain your property…do you have a stone driveway? If so, a landscape rake or rear blade can be useful. I have both and honestly, I use the rake a lot more than the blade. Your needs may be different, but this is the thought process.

BTW, you should also consider getting a weight box for your 3-pt…it will help you use your FEL to maximum capacity in the safest way.

I’ve been a happy sub-compact owner since 2000. Great machines for maintaining estates and other small properties! You’ll enjoy owning and using it!

When we bought our JD 2320 we bought it with a FEL and box blade. We’ve added a rake, drag and auger. Of the implements I use the drag the most to level my riding space, break up thatch in the paddocks, smooth gravel and so on. The drag I have is not a JD drag and I don’t know if JD makes them.

Thanks Jim! Your imput has really been invaluable! If I go down that road, I’ll be consulting you in the ‘build’ it process to know your suggestions!

yes, we have a gravel type driveway…but…its more a ‘hardpack’ of crush and run put in years and years ago. I know we have lamented not having a small enough drill seeder to get in and re seed the pastures available in our area…so maybe a rake /harrow type implement for roughing up for re seeding would be quite valuable.

thanks again!

My husband and I got a 1023E this spring with the same special they’re running now (awesome deal!). Since this was replacing our lawnmower, we got the lawnmower attachment. We also got the front bucket which can be used for just about anything. I believe it came with a weight box - it may have been part of the package with the bucket. I’m very happy with our choices! Although, I’d love to get a snowblower or plow for it, but that’s not in the budget right now.

Have fun!

A few years a![](o I bought a 2320 to replace my tc33da. The smaller JD is MUCH easier for me to use and maintain, although I LOVED the bigger New Holland too.
I got the iMatch for attachments. An FEL was a definite. I also got a ballast box, York rake and plow. Entire package out the door was, I think, $18k total about 4 years ago. (might have been $20k)
Turns out that despite some EPICS snowstorms since then, I’ve never once used the plow. Mainly because this is a small tractor and they’re really not made to push stuff as much as pull stuff or lift stuff. And when the snow is really deep, the tractor can’t shove it anyway. So I still use the FEL, which is fine on most snow storms as long as the single storm doesn’t produce more than 24" or so at once. It can move that deep. When we got 38" in 24 hours once, there was no way to get it out of the shelter, LOL!

The snowblower is a GREAT attachment but they don’t recommend them for tractors without cabs, due to flying debris. I don’t want a cab, too tall to park under a roof for my property.

I have over 1000’ of rock driveways and the York rake is a huge benefit. I also bought a TR3 rake, which is all sorts of awesomeness.
But I’d go with the York rake and definitely FEL. I can do pretty much anything with those two things. Other attachments are great and can fine-tune what I can do, but those two are pretty universal.

Which one are you getting, that will determine what implement you get. Pulverizer is a great thing, Deere also has a nice arena drag. Mower, either finish or brush hog. Weight box for certain. Pallet forks if your machine will do it. Snow blower would be a nice thing if you are in snow country.

We have a 4720 for 10 acres, and that is about as small as we could get by with. If you ever are going to get things in bulk, you will need a FEL that can lift a ton or more. Super handy for shavings, pellets, etc…

Our newer tractor has the bobcat style bucket and loader attachment, which gives you many more options for things to put on there. we are currently borrowing a friends vibratory roller for our arena extension, not possible with the Deere atachment. The bucket also holds a lot more than the utility style. Downside is it is really heavy when full and can be tippy if not careful. We have lead and portland cement in our weight box with the extension and I could use a few hundred pounds more on occasion.

If you have a fabricator nearby, have them weld a hitch onto your weight box before you fill it with concrete. Makes an awesome addition for moving trailers and such. Sorry the pic isn’t better, but that is the back of the weight box with it laying down. I cut a square hole in the weight box and stuck the receiver through, there is some addition bracing welded inside the box.

ETA, I know you are looking for a small tractor, just don’t sell yourself short, especially if buying new.
