Mine was the exact opposite of the type joiedevie described. He was a fire-breathing dragon in the warm-up - couldn’t focus, explosive, and could do some impressive pesades and would even throw in a rough courbette every once in a while. But get him in the dressage court and point him down centerline and although he was still tense and anxious, he would get down to business and lay down a (usually) very decent test. He only went to six shows before his untimely retirement but IIRC, most of his scores were very high 60’s with some low 70’s sprinkled in here and there.
