Spin off - What can you tell me about Platinum Trailers?

So, I’ve gotten lots of great feedback on my other trailer thread. I’d pretty much decided to go with a new 4Star, but when I called my local dealer this morning, I was sadly informed that the one I had chosen has already sold. Sigh.

The wait for a new model - 2H GN + DR - is five months. That is longer than I want to wait, for a variety of reasons I’d rather not get into in detail.

The dealer suggested looking at Platinum trailers. She said that the company was started by an ex-4Star engineer and that she felt the quality was comparable. Now, my wonderful former trailer (a C&C) had a similar pedigree and was a fabulous ride. So I am not opposed to taking a look, even though I am not familiar with the brand.

What can you guys tell me about this company/trailer??

Platinum is a good, solid trailer. I don’t think it is finished as nicely as 4Star, but well built nonetheless. It offers certain options, but not something like 4Star that you can custom to your tiniest specs. Now to make your life more difficult, have you considered Elite? It took two and half months from placing the order to delivery of our Elite trailer, but it could be because we placed the order at the AQHA world show and reserve a spot. Not sure how big the queue is if you order it right now. If you want a nice trailer, you won’t be disappointed by Elite.

I have a Platinum and LOVE it. I actually chose it above the 4 Star because I thought the fit and finish was nicer. But be aware that they have multiple lines also, the entry level is more similar to the Runabout line, while the one that I have I would compare to the deluxe model 4 Stars.

Both my daughters have Platinums & one of my students has one. Well made, very sturdy & pull like a dream.

I looked at a Platinum last week and I think it is the same quality as 4 Star. It is an extremely well built trailer. I have also owned Harts and Elites and Platinum is right up there with them!

Platinum = a very over priced Exiss (if you haven’t heard the horror stories run a quick search)

I have not liked the Platinums I’ve seen. I’ve seen several of them with severe frame issues/weaknesses (and these are fairly new trailers, not old ones). Platinums seem to be known for their LQ trailers, and generally seem to be owned by people who care more about the LQ than the comfort and safety of the horses.

Angelico, I am very aware of the Exiss issues. What connection do they have to the Platinum trailers?

They have nearly identical issues.

Platinum and Exiss are two very different trailers.

That is my impression as well. I did try to find comments regarding problems with Platinum, but frankly the forums etc all seem to be pretty positive.

I compared Platinums and other trailers the week before Christmas at a local dealership. We looked at Sooner, Exiss, Sundowner, CM, Cimmeron, and Eby. The Eby and Platinum trailers were superior trailers hands down.

I saw pictures of a wreck last year involving a Platinum where the driver hit black ice and the truck and trailer jackknifed into each other. The trailer held up much better than I would have expected.
