My horses have one name only. No noms de show. They show as whatever I call them at home.
But you know what? If you ride a horse named ‘Bob’, people notice. ‘Bob’ stands out in a sea of fancy show names.

This is fun!
Mine include:
My old retired horse is Gaeltarra. He was “Rehwalds Tinker” when I bought him. I don’t even know what that means, so a quick change of name was in order!! And Tinker- really?
His barn name is Fievel because he was an independent, trouble seeking liltte bugger as a 4 year old!
Filigree = “Fili” around the barn of course. Super sweet and cute grey pony mare, but she is not very delicate looking so I thought she needed a feminine name to help her out a bit.
Marineland =“Killian” around the barn, my bay OTTB mare.
Maybelline Cover Girl. Because she’s gorgeous and she knows it.

I have a good one for this thread. All of my competition horses are named with an adjective that goes with the phrase " OlympicDreams riding (insert adjective here)". Names include but are not limited to:
-Incredibly
-Magnificently
-Flawlessly
-Splendidly
-Into Victory
-With Perseverance
i love the different names!!!
fleck is flecken awesome! his old owner showed him as flecken (which is spot in german i believe), so… i had to add the awesome part! though…there are times when i’m thinking “what the fleck?!” and “fleck you”! would have been much more appropriate
roany pony girl… when i first got her i was a kid and she had a little sideways heart on each hip bone, so she was “holly’s heart”…then i realized that was cheesy so she was… kiss my grits, i’m no angel, merry go roan, crash and burn, touch and go, miss behavior, and… i think that’s all. I changed alot as we mostly did schooling shows. I think i did settle on miss behavior. And… my next few mares could keep the trend up and be Miss print, Miss take, miss fortune, etc
i did see a few out there that i really liked…there’s a Beau Zeau hee hee. and quite a few others that really stuck out at me…oh, and i love Fly N Bayou… for awhile i was doing the blank N blank ones too! that one speaks to my cajun roots too though
My guy shows under “Quite the Casanova” but everyone knows him as Brego.
The show name is a great quote from a very funny movie, Best in Show, where the guy with two left feet, who fancies himself “quite the Casanova” ends up winning best in show.
When I first met Brego he had 4 left feet, but he’s getting better and we’re starting to win.
Let’s see…the current 3 are:
~ Surf Guitar – know affectionately as Surf or Smurf in the barn…very funny since my little Smurf is 18h  I love his jockey club name, as I’m a big fan of surf guitar music and it’s definitely a unique name – for a unique horse. He’s quite possibly the biggest OTTB I’ve seen in person (and he was a fairly successful racehorse despite his size!)
~R. Huey – no idea where that name came from, but he’s just Huey at home He’s also known as “Old Man” as he’s 20 years old…and was still clocking around cross-country up until he was sidlined by a suspensory injury this march. However, he just got cleared to start going back to work under saddle…and provided all goes well will be back out on cross-country when the vet gives us the OK. He’s a cross-country machine (who did his first ** at 17!)
~Midsummer Sprite’s Dream – Sprite at home. My adorable little retired saddlebred event horse now living life as a pasture puff
some of the horses i’ve competed…
Code Red “Cody” - large chestnut morgan pony, novice/training, now mom’s horse
Wil’Ya Love Me “Willy” - possibly the only purebred connemara currently competing at intermediate!!!
Paint It Black “Deacon” - named after my college, Wake Forest, in honor of their last football season dubbed "paint it black’ year, mascot is the demon deacon. Double meaning because deacon is a TB x paint (actually a grey paint!!! - grey with WHITE spots) … and lord knows he can’t keep clean… so paint it black!
Divine N’Fine “Devon” - novice Mangalarga mare
Sea Miss “Kailee”
Mischief Managed “Scooby” - show name is taken from the magical map in Harry Potter

My soon-to-be mare (aka Westlaw’s mare):
6 yr. old bay OTTB mare, Jockey Club name: Gypsy Kate
We call her KatyBug or Buglet, but she shows as ‘With Sprinkles’.[/QUOTE]
Westlaw is selling Kate? What happened? She was so excited to go recognized with her (I remember she even bought the yellow watch).
and how could i forget…
Hugs N’Smooches…“Smoochie” a grey large pony i was training for a PC family
I think I win on the low end of the creativity scale:
Dually = Dually
:lol::lol::lol:
my parents bought him initially for my brother, who wanted a dually truck but instead got a dually horse!

Hmmmm. Maybe I should just leave well enough alone and show him under “Froggy.” Hmmmm.
Reiley is Back Stage Bouncer, his JC name. It really doesn’t fit him at all, but I kept it because I find it amusing and because it makes him feel tough since he’s such a momma’s boy.
My horse came with his JC name, Aiken Pike, which was the name of the road in KY he was born on. They called him Aiken, which was ok, but since he is my first horse and I am obsessed with horse names, I wanted something awesome. The day I tried him, I knew I wanted him, so I started looking for names. I was looking at the sales video and thought he looked like he needed a name with European influences, so I started digging into celtic and arthurean legends. On one of the pages there was a link to Dante Alighieri’s “The Divine Comedy”, which was perfect. Most people know Dante’s Inferno, and a few know Dante’s Paradise, but a lot of people don’t know (which is a failure of our English classes) that these two parts are part of “The Divine Comedy” including heaven, hell, and purgatory. So anyways, he became Divine Comedy and his barn name is Dante.
Funny story, a teenage girl at my barn thought that I named him after Dante, the pothead in Grandma’s Boy (which is indeed a good movie). This is because my horse acts rather like a pothead, always hungry, and always thinking everything is funny. She thought that the show name was because Grandma’s Boy is a comedy…I was like O.O
Well my current horse is Sight Unseen, but I am thinking about reg him with USEA as Sightunseen, so he doesnt have to have the VIII after it. His barn name is Sargent. When my friend got him he did not have a name, yeah a 2 yo without a name, the horse was also a “gelding”…the owners were SKETCHY!!! So this horse was going to be her husbands horse so he named him Sargent, he’s a cop. Everyone calls him Sarge and it seems very fitting. So when my friend and I were discussing show names I told her she should call him Sight Unseen because she agreed to take him “Sight Unsee” because the owners wanted to kill him. So it stuck…
I also had a Solstice…Sylvie
Street Theater, JC name Street War, barn name Street. He was a TOTAL show off
Arabian Nights…Spice…yeah I was 7 and really into Aladdin.
I would love it if I could go see a dressage show, where all the horses have European sounding names three words long, if someone was showing a horse named ‘Pokey’ or ‘Skeeter’ or similar. That would be outstanding. Event horses seem to not have completely ridiculous flowery names most of the time.

Definitely. Let him be Froggy.
It’s not like WE have show names. If we do, we usually don’t like them and have cringing remembrances of the teacher calling us by those names in school or of Mom/Dad using our ‘show name’ when they were mad at us.
I’ll play, I’ve had several so here are the top ones:
Graf’s Gesture, AKA Gavin. He came with the show name but we just liked the name Gavin better then George so he got a new name. Gavin was more fitting being a 17.2, grey dutch horse anyway. Much more regal sounding.
Crimson Tyde, AKA Foxy. She came with it, and although everybody hated the name Foxy at first it was very well suited for a pretty chestnut mare with an attitude and she kept it.
Dark Shadows, AKA Shadow. Yes he was black and I named a horse Shadow, but I had a good reason! My other horse at the time was Barnabus Collins, you know the main character from Dark Shadows?? Nevermind I never saw the show either but Colin came with that name.
Flying Below Zero, AKA Zero or Z. It was actually his race name and not a bad one so we just named him Zero for short.
Major Tango, AKA Tango. He came with it and couldn’t change it since he would call everytime you said Tango. Dad was Trumpet Major and mom was Nervous Lady. Not quite sure where the Tango part came from.
Pallas Ballyowen, AKA Owen or Bodie. His name was Pepe when I bought him out of a cowboy’s pasture and I just couldn’t call him that! I loved the name Owen and it was very fitting for him being such a big puppydog. The show name just evolved. Pallas came from his dad Pallas Digion, and then the Ballyowen was just because he’s Irish and his name is Owen. Not sure why we all started calling him Bodie though:confused:
Nothing too exciting…
MY screen name is his JC Name, pronounced San Wah!
Small resort town in France.
His show name was Fandango, From the cult skydiving movie of the same title, And his barn name is from a character in same movie that fits him to a tee.
Truman… AKA Truman Sparks.
My horse’s show name is Angels Are Lucky…don’t laugh. loll, it’s his AQHA name and I just never changed it for showing hunters and eventing.
A few of the ponies I previously competed for my trainer had REALLY cute names:
Ring Around the Collar…his barn name was Wisk…you know, the detergent? because Wisk gets ring around the collar out. hehe
Bittersweet Shadow Dancer…barn name was Robin, his sire was Bittersweet Balliet Master owned by Dr. and Mrs. Yeaten.
And a horse I rode for my trainer this spring was named “Probable Cause” I LOVEEEE itt. Probably one of my fav names. =]
