Spin Off: What's your horse's Show name?

I saw the post asking if her horses show name was okay and it got me thinking What is everyones Horses show names?
I will Just do my eventer:
Her name is Cinniman, but show name is Ready to Riot. Thats because she is CRAZY and at any second she could be the sweetest most perfect girl ever or she could be the complete opposite and try and kill me and slam me on the ground! Thought this name fit her best!

My horse’s registered name is Aggressive Brass, his barn name is Spud. He is also rather tall and elegant so I wanted a name that reflected that. I asked for ideas and someone suggested Katahdin, which is the name of a mountain in Maine (we’re in New Hampshire) and is also a type of potato, which is a play on his barn name. My kids, by the way, wanted me to name him Mr Potato Head, but that didn’t have quite the sophisticated sound I was looking for. :lol:

My daughter’s new horse has a registered name of Number Two Hammer, she renamed him Hammer Time, and his barn name is Hammy.

Roman Gladiator.

It’s his Jockey Club name and I liked it enough so I didn’t care to change it. I don’t believe the whole superstition that competing under their racing name is bad luck. His barn name is Tucker.

Mine are in my sig :slight_smile:

  • My mare, Lady. Original JC name was Big Hearted Lady so her barnname stuck but I thought her JC name was too cheesy. Changed it to ā€œNo Doubtsā€ 'cause I had no doubts about buying her! She’s the love of my life.

  • My gelding, Q. Original JC name was Shuya? dunno what that means :confused: He was in training at a barn and they called him Clapton :dead: I thought for a while about it and he’s so curious, smart, and in-your-lap that we decided to call him Inquisitive, or Q for short. Also plays on the cool dude in James Bond!

  • My new baby, Orion. I decided on his barnname as the past nights before he was born the sky was incredibly clear and the stars were shining brightly. I didn’t think that the constellation Orion is not quite out yet… but anyway… He’s also very determined and strong (difficult birth) so thought ā€œthe hunterā€ was fitting. Also plays on 3: socks & times my mare was bred before she took :lol: For his showname (wanted to start with an ā€˜R’ after his daddy) everyone else wanted Resolute which fit him very well but I thought it sounded a bit too fancy. I hope he will be my next eventer so I decided to call him Redshift. It’s an astronomy/physics term (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshift) but thought it was fitting: you’ll see us galloping away on the XC course :winkgrin:

ETA old horses/ponies we’ve owned

  • Molly. My last pony before I got Lady (my first horse). She was a small grey welsh pony that could easily do the horse strides :eek: I learned so much from her… anyway, her registered Welsh name was Gwyn Ap Dwyer but I showed her as Take Note

  • Katie. My first real pony (owned). I don’t remember if she came with a showname but we showed her as Heart’s Desire.

  • Munch. My mom’s horse. He was an amazing appy that did the junior hunters with some girls at the barn, the limited adult stuff with her, and the short stirrup with me! His showname was Fuzzy Logic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuzzy_logic)

Patronus (Tucker)…from Harry Potter, it means to protect. He is my draftx.
Impulsive (Imp) my daughter Jen’s mare we just retired
Vertigo (Bates), Jen’s new eventer…haven’t decided if we are going to change Vertigo yet to something else.
Storm Chaser (Pilgrim) my daughter Amanda’s retired eventer (in his former life he was Macnus and on the track he was Amaryllo Albert…YUCK on the last one!)
Hello Dolly (Dolly), Amanda’s first horse

my NZTB is Quiet Achiever, Toby around the barn. He’s got that super quiet rock solid, easy going, happy go lucky temperment (hence quiet) but when it’s time to event, he turns on the charm and is quite the showman. He’s a xc machine, jumps anything you put infront of him, and adores what he does.

Gwen is Guinevere
Bonnie is Seelie Court II (the ā€œIIā€ is the USEA’s suffix, she is the 2nd one, I guess)

Gwen must be the original Guinevere because she has no suffix and I’ve seen a handful of other Guineveres out there eventing. :slight_smile:

Bonnie’s mama (Kelly) was Delta Wave (naturally) :smiley:

Really cute! I remember seeing this in some entries/results and thinking it was nice!

You know, I always heard it was the opposite. It’s bad luck to show/register them under a different name. Of course, this was from a QH racing person. Maybe other tracks are different? :slight_smile:

Mine is Grin and Bear It. There are several reasons, one of which is that he really does grin. I’ve also had to take up that mantra, in horsey and non horsey aspects of my life. It fits. :yes:

Mine, so far!

Flower = Sunflower
Disco = Discovery
Magic = Half Magic
Quin = Quintessential
Dylan = By Design
Sable = A Plus
Hannibal = Benajamin Blue

Some of them never actually made it to the show phase… but still got a showname!

Flower was named by the rescue league, she was their poster-pony and well known by that name so I kept it. I picked Sunflower for her because a sunflower is a strong and substantial plant, and she was no delicate flower!

Disco was named after the space shuttle Discovery - one of it’s launches was right aftter the day she was born and her mother’s name was Rocket so it just fit. Plus, she was my best friend’s first horse, and was indeed a voyage of discovery!

Magic had been evented as Half Magic for 15 years when I got him, and I’d known him as that for 5 years or so, so couldn’t change it! ā€œHalf Magicā€ is a children’s book where the kids in the story get half magic - so their wishes are granted but only half way, so they end up trying to wish twice as hard to get what they want but everything goes wonky. My horse Magic was 110% perfect, the best horse anyone could ever hope for. But I can admit that I has to wish twice as hard that he wouldn’t injure himself somehow, and it did indeed only half work… he had a special skill for self mutilation!

Quin was Suzie Q when I bought her - I was an adult and couldn’t stomach having a Flower and a Suzie Q! I liked the Q part though so I looked for a name that started with a Q (I still call her Q half the time!) Her full name is ā€œQuintessential Chestnut TB Mare!ā€ā€¦ and that tells you everything you need to know about Ms. Q!!! :lol:

Dylan got his name in part because he was purchased from a man named Dillon, I just changed the spelling. He was named By Design after my web design business which was meant to sponsor him as an event horse but he went lame and killed that plan! He is a very impressive lawn ornament and treat disposal now!

A Plus was Sable’s racing name, he was in his late 20’s when I got him, but I researched his racing tatoo and found this out. He was a Dressage horse for many years, and had done some eventing at some point, but he was a rescue so I don’t know what name he actually showed under.

Hannibal was named when I got him, and I’d known him as such for over a year. I later found out that Benjamin Blue had been his name with a previous owner and I liked that plus it fit him, so I kept that as his ā€œofficial nameā€.

Quin is Quintessential VII with the USEA - guess I’m not too origional!! :lol:

I’m not very creative :slight_smile:

Mira is Treasured Discovery
Mocha is Cafe Mocha

I’ve noticed roman numerals in names before…I never really knew exactly why. Is that why Windfall is technically Windfall II? There was another one?

When I am riding again… sigh…

The friend’s gelding I ride is in the USEA as Trump-It. We call him Trumpie, and I often call him Goofball, because he is. (I visited all the horses on Sunday and he was afraid of my arm sling and would not get within 10 feet of me, even though I had carrots! So his buddy Skip (USEA name ā€œFair Dealā€) got Trump’s carrot.)

My horse, I will use her registered name (Mythic Feronia) for showing. Feronia is a Latin harvest goddess, and also a goddess to whom Roman slaves prayed for freedom. Around the barn, she’s mostly Feronia, though the barn help call her Barbie because she’s blond (Palomino) and pretty and she knows it. I call her Piglet when she’s getting too pushy about her food.

Mine have been:

Jack Frost (Frost). He had a passport when I got him, so the name had to stay. He was a bay frost appy.

Honour Roll (Bob). His AQHA name is Palleo Shawn (ew) and he came with Big Bad Bob, but I was 12 and refused to believe he was an ass (he came from a rough past). Now I wish I had never changed it, because he an ass, though a charming one, and his old name fits perfectly.

My new 5 yr old, AJ, doesnt have a show name yet. He is registered with CWHBA as All That Jazz IV but I hate it. I took him to one show under Mr. Brown. Then he was off for 2 months with an infection and now Im not sure about his show name. Mr. Brown is kind of dull for him! Though of something to do with dogs, because he is like a dog trapped in a horse’s body (Stafford, Underdog). Then thought about Long Patrol (the Hare army in Redwall) because he does look rabbitish, especially when jumping, as he is kind of built on springs.

Dannyboy is Dancin On A Dream. It’s kind of corny but I still really like it - he’s my first horse and a dream come true :slight_smile: I didn’t name him that, his dad was Dreamfinder and his mother was Pickin N Dancin.

My horse’s barn name was Mister when I got him, and it fits and I like it. I did not learn his JC name until I’d had him ~2 years (it’s Sir William Lewis, how snooty is that!). I was on a Monty Python kick when I got around to registering him with the USEA, and he events as Flying Circus.

The Buglet

My soon-to-be mare (aka Westlaw’s mare):

6 yr. old bay OTTB mare, Jockey Club name: Gypsy Kate
