SPINOFF: best place for custom embroidered saddle pads

All this talk about what is and isn’t allowed to be embroidered on saddle pads got me giving my trainer ideas. We just re-designed her logo and would like to add it to saddle pads - both for showing (in white) and for schooling (in grey).

What would be the best route for this? Do you buy the pad as you want it, then take it into a local place that embroiders? Or is there an online tack supply that does an excellent job?

http://twosocksdesigns.com can supply the pad and does gorgeous embroidery!

Schneiders Saddlery® | sstack.com does a great job of embroidering saddle pads. I think there are minimum orders but they replicated the MTC design beautifully. And the quality of the pads is good, as well.

Wow, thanks! I’m sending these links on.

I’ll second the recommendation of Two Socks Designs! I got a “stock” custom pad off their Etsy store that I liked so well, I contacted her to do a custom show pad design for us, for eventing/jumpers. So easy to work with, and it came out beautifully!

I’ve been looking at their site and their vendor sites a bit. How does the custom part work?
Do you select the pad you like off the vendor site, then send them the design?

Well, in my case, I basically poked around her site, and what I wanted was kind of a combination of things she’d already done. So I emailed and explained that I’d loved the other pad I’d bought, and wondered if it would be possible to get X pad with Y design and Z font. She said yes, in a day or two I had a proof to approve, and I had the pad pretty darn quickly after that!

So I’d say email and ask about the possibility of getting the pad you’re interested in and using your logo design, assuming you’ve got a scan of it or something.

I know of a company who does logowear in all kinds of formats. For saddle pads you would provide the ones you want (which can make it less expensive!) and after paying to set up the logo you can later get hats, shirts, etc., with the logo also.

PM me if you’re interested, because I can put you in touch with an individual who can help make sure you get a good deal as far as their price range and don’t want to post that info publicly. I have no idea how they would compare to horse-specific companies, but suspect they would be less expensive than anything but maybe an Etsy type horse shop.

Thanks! We have a local embroidery person. That might actually be the cheaper option, huh?

Before you spend a lot of money on a pad to embroider locally, make sure their machine can handle it. A saddle pad, unless it is a baby quilt, is much thicker than almost anything else. I have an embroidery machine and have slowly done a thin pad, but could not do a multi layered one. Just food for thought.

Ohhh. Very good point. Thanks.

Also there’s Threadneedle Embroidery. They do a lot of work for hunter/jumpers and dressage people on the west coast.

Yes, and I didn’t notice who the OP was on this thread.

I used a local embroidery person. I bought a stack of plain white pads (at the Dover tent sale last year) and just had my monogram put on them. The machines handled a regular-thickness quilted pad with no issues. They had a ton of color choices for the thread and were done in just a week. I also had shipping wraps done at the same time, and it was nice having as many color/font/design choices as they offered – far more than Dover or Smartpak on line. And while I’m admittedly a Smartpak addict, it is nice supporting a local business.

THis is an older post, but I would like to add that I do custom saddle pads for barns and a few colleges here in VA. I have several different pads including Back in Track, PRI and Perris Leathers, as well as Roma and Union Hill. I have a digitizer who can turn your logo into a file my machine can read. I have a Barudan commercial embroidery machine and I really love doing custom jobs with colors and designs that are just what each customer is looking for. I also do Dressage pads with custom corners and flourishes on them. I have an Etsy site, a Facebook page and am getting someone to design a website because I don’t have time to keep the Etsy and FB ones updated . My shop is The French Thread. I also do totes, saddle bags, sweatshirts etc. and have a brick and mortar store so am able to buy all kinds of embroiderable products. Just an FYI in case anyone’s is interested and looking.
