Spinoff: Hunter barns in Denver, but I need northern Colorado.

The post about Hunter barns in Denver reminded me to ask the question that I never seem to remember when I’m at the computer.

Any suggestions for the northern Colorado area (Ft Collins, Loveland, Longmont) for Hunter trainers to put a bit of a foundation on a coming 4 year old Quarter Horse? He’s had 45ish rides, but been sitting for several months since I’ve been out of the country. I’d like to find someone to put a solid 30-60 days on him in the spring time so that I have a bit more to work with when I get home. I already have one in full training and cannot afford a second big-time training bill so would prefer to find a place that offers a full care group turn out board type situation. It’s ok if he stays hairy, doesn’t need to be slick, nor does he need to be stalled. Will go further in to the state but would prefer he were closer to the boarder. Thoughts?

Karen Banister at White Harvest Farms does the hunter/jumper A shows as well as breed shows for AQHA and APHA. They have a great program (especially for young horses) over there. They have indoor stalls and also outdoor sheltered runs. I’m not sure how much board would run you, but it’s worth a call :). Her prices are very reasonable for how much experience she has and how good her training is (she is multiple time World Champion and Reserve Champion in APHA and does the professional hunters and bigger jumpers at the A shows). Her barn is in Brighton, so I’m not sure how far it is from you. I’m not really familiar with any of the trainers further north. She’s very professional and great to work with.

Jill Pelzel / Jen Duffy in Fort Lupton. They are affordable and do outdoor small groups with shelters. Most of the other h/j programs in the area that I would recommend would come with a bigger time training and board bill. Jen would likely be the one riding, and she is very good with youngsters.

Thank you for the suggestion. Yes I am quite familiar with Karen. I grew up on Paint horses and needless to say have watched her for years. I assume her costs will be out of my budget, but you’re right; it’s worth a call. I do plan to see about lessoning with her on my green hunter when I get back.

I’ll have to give her a call. A friend suggested her as well. Thanks!
