So after reading some of the Roberto thread and seeing Kris S a lot I decided to start my own thread to find out if any of my horses babies are on COTH.
Kris S is my horse’s grandfather. My horse is Kris’s Touch out of Evening Kris.
I would so love to find out if anyone else has the problems with their Kris S horses that I am having with mine.
My guy supposedly has some babies running around so it would be fun to know where they are and what they are doing.
So post pics of your Kris S horses and let’s see if we are family LOL
Much as I hate to post this because I do love Roberto in pedigrees, a very large percentage of his stallion sons were notorious for evil dispositions. Kris S was one of those. Now I’m certainly not willing to say that they were inherently evil because the lives breeding stallions often live would not be conducive to placidity, especially when you factor in testosterone and sensitivity, but many of them are on the bad actor list.
I do know that Kris S is the sire of Kissing Kris, who also is not notable for his kindness and gentleness.
Hmm interesting. My horse is a love on the ground, he has a very sweet disposition but he is a very loyal one person horse. Under saddle he does have some issues because at some point he was allowed to think crowhopping and bucking were okay. He is now deemed cold backed but horses don’t just become cold backed- there is always a reason for it. Whatever happened to cause him to be this way goes further back in his history than I do and now it’s become behavioral as opposed to physiological. (We had him vetted this week- nothing is wrong except his head.)
So while he is as sweet as can be, under saddle he is naughty in a bad way. Wonder if it’s his lineage then…
Have seen a couple Kissing Kris and Kris S offspring come through Suffolk and end up in CANTERNE to be sold. One was a beautiful black mare who had collapsed twice in races due to being such a bad bleeder. (yes twice poor thing) All my eventer friends were drooling over her. The other was a gelding who someone purchased to be an eventer, but he ended up having stifle problems and came back around through CANTERNE for sale. They did mention that the gelding was a great jumper, and had a very nice mind, very pretty in pics. Not a lot of info for you there, and who knows what was the cause of the stifle problems, but thought I would mention it just in case it helps somehow.
my broodmare’s damsire is You and I, by Kris S, she’s a total sweetie. my baby’s sire’s dam is by Kris S, plus the baby has Halo (Roberto and Halo both sired by Hail to Reason) on the bottom as well. she’s been an angel. my old mare is by another Roberto son (Octavo) and while she’s very well behaved, she’s a bit aloof and too damn smart for her (or my!) own good. for what it’s worth, i also have a schoolhorse that shows Hail the Prince in his bloodlines, another Hail to Reason son. Not a mean bone in his body. not an ambitious one, either, but that’s besides the point… lol
My mare’s damsire is Kris S. She can be very sweet, but she is not a horse you trust. I let her get away with a certain amount of “expressiveness” (ie ear pinning, pawing, other displays of nastiness) with the understanding that should she actually DO anything like try to nip or kick the world will come crashing down upon her shoulders. Sometimes she just can’t help herself, she’s just too smart and full of it to stop pushing every single boundary. It gets old.
My husband’s semi-retired horse is Sphinx, by Kris. S. out of Inreality Star. From what we’ve heard, he was such a beast to handle on the track (think two handlers, both with chains) that he was gelded. He’s pretty pushy on the ground and can get keyed up. He likes to push his boundaries and pick fights, but he’s never completely lost his head about it. If he respects you, he’ll work hard for you. Our guy is very typey to Kris S.: dark bay/black, 16.3, tons of bone (we get asked all the time what kind of warmblood he is), that regal expression. I’ll try to find pics when I get home.
Through a twist of fate I now own the son of Kissin Kris (no “g” in that, BTW) I had mentioned in the Roberto thread.
He is a total sweetheart.

Maybe for you, but he likes me!! 
Surprised no one has mentioned the most obvious…Zenyatta is out of a Kris S mare. Or maybe that’s too obvious? She seems to have a good disposition.

I know nothing of Zenyatta’s temperment…just that she is big and runs well!! (shame she lost by a nose today in the Breeders Cup…but she did come from dead last/I was rooting for her) but wowee that is a pedigree I would be wary of for temperment: Halo, Roberto and linebred to Hoist the Flag as well!
From what I’ve seen of her in videos, she seems to have a nice even temperament.
Interestingly, Blame, that just beat her in the BC Classic, is also a Kris S grandchild. He is by Arch, who is by Kris S.

While we are speaking of Kris S babies, I’m on the hunt for a mare by the name of Krissie Belle. Her mother is Georges Warbelle, her sire Reprised who is a Kris S son. I’d love any information on her, or her siblings for that matter, Siberian Surprise or Skipalong Cassidy.
Krissie Belles mother is (was-she died about a year ago) owned by a VERY good friend of mine who would love to know anything about the babies. So, any info anyone has is greatly appreciated.

I love Zenyatta, but I think she is more “well handled” than sweet. She has a true horseman for a trainer & he gets that she needs to be given a certain amount of latitude to be a happy racehorse.
I don’t mean to imply that she is mean or anything, because I just think she has a strong personality - but I think a well-handled animal is generally happier than one handled by people who don’t quite get them & that puts her in a special class.
In addition to being big & talented & still MY choice for HOY, I think Zenyatta got this far in part on incredible talent & in part by being very well-treated by the smart horsepeople who surround her.
And getting back on topic - I think Kris S & many of his offspring also have strong personalities . . . which if not handled correctly give you horses people label as bad actors.

This mare was recently listed on the Finger Lakes trainers list. She’s out of a Kris S mare and by Prime Timber. At three years old she’s a big girl and isn’t yet fully mature. I suspect she’ll be pretty nice. Her connections say she’s sweet and her breeding says sport horse to me.
I’ve never run into anything but good with Roberto lines. Years ago I rode a horse named Uno Roberto by Roberto and he remains one of my all time favorite horses.
One of our broodmares is by Kris S., out of a Graustark mare. She has one of the best dispositions…ever. She is not a “lovey” mare, and makes ugly faces from time to time, but has never been hateful, or agressive at all. She is easy for everything, clipping, loading, vet/farrier, and a child could handle her easily. As easy as she is, her foals are exceptionaly easy, and good natured. Her 2 yr old filly by the TB stallion Leroidesanimaux, is laid back, sweet, and personable. She loads, travels, and does just about anything you ask her to. She wore a saddle and girth for the first time, and acted like she had no idea there was anything on her back. She has been EASY! Her weanling little brother is even easier…He is a love, and so mild mannered. He, of ALL of the kiddos should be a holy terror by some of your standards, as he is by a Storm Cat son (oh, the horror!) AND he’s doubled up Roberto. I adore this baby. He is the most quiet and easiest baby I have ever met.
I adore the Kris S lines for athletecism, and the brain they have. They may not be the ones that want you all over them, they are a bit too business like for that, I’ve never met one I didn’t like. I personally find their business like personalities great! Blue (the weanling), learned how to make the “ugly face” that my retired advanced horse is king of (Diamond was the babysitter for a few months after weaning) Blue now mimics Diamond…pins his ears flat back (FLAT), wrinkles his nose and stretches his neck out at the other babies. He’s pretty sure he’s tough stuff…the other babies aren’t exactly convinced. Diamond (retired guy) is king of this look. Never does anything with it, but he sure looks scary if you don’t know him. FWI, the baby never does this to people, just the other babies, and occasionally his babysitter, which doesn’t go well. His big sister does it as well, but again, had Dimaond as a babysiter.
Mostly, our Kris S line mare, and babies, are sweet, well behaved, easy to work with horses. I would absolutly have another Kris S in our barn.
