spinoff of RF Amber Eyes: Eventers, what's your horse's hunter name?
But they hardly connoted the image I wanted to portray when I walked in the ring on them.
Well, there it is in a nutshell.

Just popped over here, though I usually lurk in H-J land. I love this thread.

But I would note that you guys have overlooked the key exception to the “one word” rule.

Names may be any # of syllables or words if they reference an alcoholic beverage.

Have at it.
Hmm, Irish Car Bomb probably not a good option?

Eventing name: Semi-Automatic
Hunter name: Androscoggin

He actually came with the “hunter” name. I found it heinous (there is a nasty river in Maine named the Androscoggin River. There is also an Androscoggin county. This pony was not born in or near either of them.). Semi-Automatic fits him MUCH better!

I show my TB mare in the hunters as “Just a Kiss” (reg. name Cozzey Kiss blech).

She’s a rather…temperamental mare, and all my HP friends (I grew up in the jumpers) physically restrained me from showing her under “Kiss My Assets”. I have made them promise to allow it if I do make it to the jumpers or eventing… :stuck_out_tongue:

I show my TB under his JC name in Eventing and the H/J world…but I’ll play along anyway

JC Name: Lump Sum
Barn Name: Stash
Hunter Name: Cache…or maybe Exchequer

Fun Thread I will play!
JC: Black Box (yuk)
Show Name: I’ve Got the Rhythm
Hunter Name: Rhythmical, or Cadance

And don’t forget that if you want your starter to say it right, if you want to name your horse something in a foreign tongue, your best chances of a correct pronunciation come from names of vacation destinations or alcohols.

My first horse’s “eventer name”- also his race name- was Intrepid John. I showed him in the hunters as “Renaissance” and later as “H.I.H. Black Knight.” I changed it because my mother raised me honest, and calling spooky John “intrepid” was a terrible lie. The Black Knight name was “His Imperial Highness the Black Knight”- as in the Black Knight from Monty Python who perseveres despite being, er, rather lame- so it was not really a matter of taking ourselves seriously.

Tip’s eventer name was Tipperary. His hunter name is Tipperary. After some pronunciation difficulties at horse shows (Tip-per-AIR-ree! Not “Tippery,” for heaven’s sake, and certainly not “Temporary!”) I contemplated calling him “Neverland” (because he is never, never gonna grow up!) but my sister said it reminded her of Michael Jackson, and not in the good way. So Tip he remains and it certainly suits him.

Oh, I do think it’s silly to keep the RF, but there’s are a fair number of eventers, some of whom import and sell eventers themselves, who’ve bought horses imported by RF in the couple of years since she joined the scene that dutifully show under the RF prefix.
I just thought it was comical that one of her friends from her original sport had absolutely no compunction about dropping the RF and changing the name entirely.

As for the hunter name conversions-some of you are way too clever. Those are some great names.

If I may riff on a theme? Former eventer turned DQ here. My WB has an appropriately European sounding name. If I evented him though, his eventing name would be: Dismal

So does that mean my horse has one that can play in all disciplines?

It’s

 • One word
 • kinda fancy sounding
 • a type of alcoholic drink (wine)
 • has no reference whatsoever to his breeding/pedigree

My OTTB’s JC name is Brolio. I think it’s pretty classy sounding, but I also suck at coming up with one word names (hint: first horse’s barn name was “Goober”)!

My last horse’s registered name was “Neevas Grand Nikitta” :eek:I showed her in both hunters and eventing as “girl with a curl.”

Hunter/Jumper here!

My horse’s JC name is ‘Flashy Review’. His sire is Bold N Flashy, dam is Dinner Review. I’m very glad he isn’t Bold Dinner! Or really anything with dinner in it because that is not a happy prediction for his future.

His hunter name is Flashy Review, though I would change it to Flashpoint (a popular Canadian cop TV show) if he didn’t have such an extensive show record. His eventer or jumper name would be AF Bomb- if I could get away with it!

Eventing/JC: Wee Dee Trrr
Barn name: Westley
Hunter name: Wanderlust

Registered name: Picasso View From Above
Eventing name: Pablo Picasso
Barn name: Picasso (or just “pony”)
Hunter name: Popular

Isn’t this just one of the most fantastic names there is? It is a perfect eventer name. Right up there with that Irish horse Drunken Disorderly.

One of my favorite horse’s JC name is Lady Zoe. Her nickname is Sis. She was really, really tough to start under saddle. I would always say to her right before I put my foot in the stirrup, “Let’s not get our knickers in a twist today, huh Sis?” And Sis stuck. I always said if I ever show her, her hunter/jumper name is going to be Twisted Nickers.

Sheila

Edited to add, we bred her this year to our stallion, Tiz Brian (by Tiznow). I keep telling my husband I’m going to name her baby Tiz Twisted if it comes out quirky temperamented like her.

Hunter name: Endless.

As in, Endless amount of lunging to make him slow enough. Endless amount of time spent waiting around for a class to finish. Endless amount of money spent to earn a .50 ribbon (well, that goes for eventing too).

JC: Paisley Pete :frowning: Eventing name: Sailin Shoes…Hunter name: Limitless, or if that’s been used a billion times just “Sail”

My horse’s original JC name was “Walkbytheseamon”. Yeah. Say it out loud. D’oh. Luckily, someone had the good sense to change it while he was still running, to Seawalker, and that is what he shows under for eventing.

I think his hunter name would be Blue Curaçao.

Barn name: Doc
Eventing name: Standing Order
Hunter name: Clooney (The TV series ER…)

Barn Name: Brandy
Eventing name: SPF’s Big Idea
Hunter name: Elphaba

(I’m not going to comment on the fact that she is a perch/something cross and refuses to jump with a bit in her mouth, so the chance of her becoming a hunter is Completely and Entirely Nonexistent.)

Can geldings play since hookery won’t work?
JC willem
Barn Willie
Eventer needawill
Hunter desire
Boom!
