Spinoff- where do you carry your smart phone when you ride?

So I’ve always had a tiny phone that I carry in a leg band thing when I’m out on the trails. Then yesterday my mom surprised me with a new galaxy. Yay mom! but this thing is huge compared to my old phone. I ordered an otterbox defender for it promptly, but what do you guys do with your smart phones when you ride?

Breeches pocket, which it barely fits in.

I keep mine in a clip on my belt.

I did buy a cell phone holder that straps to your ankle when you ride. If I ride in jeans then in my pocket. I have seen a friend buy the otterbox case that clips to her pants, she has fallen off with the phone clipped and it never came off. And it wasn’t damaged.

i have a case for my iphone that has a belt holster with a clip; i clip it to my -ahem- sports bra under my shirt. (a couple of our better endowed riders just stuff them down their bras. )

Used to be an Otterbox Defender clipped on my belt. Now a LifeProof clipped to my belt. I clip it slightly behind my right hip so its out of the way, but still accessible. I do full endurance rides with it there. Never had an issue.

Clearly these people do not sweat very much.

I like this vest from Duluth Trading for carrying my phone, keys, and other “stuff” while trail riding:

Because the back is a mesh weave, it isn’t all that hot to wear.

mine’s on the outside of the bra; couldn’t speak for my instructors/classmates though. i want it somewhere where i won’t land on it if i come off; i’ve only ever superman-ed it onto my chest once, so i figure that’s the safest place for it. of course if i go into the water when we’re crossing the river then all bets are off. :sigh:

In winter, in a jacket pocket. In summer, if I’m wearing my Camelbak, it goes in there. Otherwise, I put it in my SPIbelt – I slide it around until the phone sits in the small of my back, and it doesn’t budge. Added bonus – I put my truck key in the other pocket, so it doesn’t scratch the phone.

I have an iphone 5 with an Otterbox Armor case on it. Haven’t found a band that will fit it!! I shove it in a cloth pouch, tie it to my riding vest and tuck it under the vest on my chest. Can’t fit it anywhere else and I don’t like it banging around tied to me.

LOVE this!! I ride in AZ (temps upward of 105) Thought it would be super hot but it’s not any hotter than anything else in that temp. Only prob I’ve heard is that the armband is kinda small if you are plus size.

I use an armband like this for my phone.

That, or I have a light weight jacket with a zipper pouch in the same location on the arm that I keep my phone in.

Edited to add - I discovered my arm band holder fits around the top of my calf - over my half chaps even, so i now wear it there.

Its a little easier to access, because I can use both hands - and I feel it is a location less likely to get smashed in a fall.

Knock on wood (furiously!) but I have not parted ways with my horse in over a decade - but when I have, seems like I usually land shoulder first.

IPod armband for britches that don’t have a zippered pocket. Easy for me to see through the plastic window and answer the phone or dial a number. In a zippered pocket when my clothing has them.

I wear a bluetooth when out riding, so I don’t need to handle my phone except when I want to make a call.

Never, ever leave my phone on the horse.

I’ve heard of people using fishing vests to store stuff in because they have many pockets are made of light weight material. Those vests from Duluth trading look nice!

The cell phone is on a clip on my waist band of my riding tights. I prefer it on the left side, near my spine but to the left of it. Not at my elbow, more where my kidney is.

If you become separated from your horse, or part company some how, and your phone or keys are in a saddle bag or on the horse maybe connected to the saddle then there goes your phone and communication.

I keep my keys, on a clip, and inside the waist band of my tights on the right, just to the inside of my hip bone, like right at my right ovary. If they come off, they go into my tights.

Keys and phones imo should be on YOUR person at all times. Speaking from experience.

I used to have a droid last year, now I have a G’zone Ravine ruggedized phone. I went from smart to a flip again. Less $ per month, and less hassle imo.

I had an arm band for my flip phone. Loved it! Now I put my Smart phone in my bra. I’ve done searches looking for a similar arm band for a Smart phone but haven’t found one yet.

Love the Duluth vest colors! I wear a Magellan vest [URL=“http://http://www.magellans.com/magellan-s-travel-vest”] which also has a lot of pockets and is very lightweight, but colors aren’t as fun. Zip pockets for phone, keys, GPS and lots of velcro pockets for snacks, ride cards, etc.

I have a “military grade” case I bought at Walmart. The clip broke almost immediately, but the case is about indestructible (I have tested this on several occasions). I tuck it into my waistband in front of me facing outward. The case is waterproof, so sweat doesn’t bother it. It doesn’t move and doesn’t interfere with my riding.

Mine goes in the back pocket of my jeans. No damage thus far.
