Spirit House TB Stallion

I saw this boy at the Dublin Horse Show this year : he is built like a brick **** house, lots of bone, a real old-fashioned type, and I would love to use him but as so often with Irish stallions I think that he may do AI but not for export. One option would be (and I have done this before when I wanted to use the Holstein stallion Capitalist) - to buy a broodmare in Ireland and put her in foal to him before bringing her over to the UK.

Looking at his pedigree, I would love to have opinions on the “ideal” nick for him - what lines should I be seeking in a mare?

If it were I, I’d look for a mare with a high percentage of Herod and Matchem. It will be hard to find Matchem over there, but it would certainly be worth the effort. You’d probably have more luck finding the Precipitation line than the Fair Play line, but either would help. Stallion got quite a bit of North American Matchem from Busanda, Natalma (twice), Intriguing (twice)Bold Ruler and RAN (twice), and Herod through My Babu, Amber Morn, but could use some more through the mare. Try and find one with Roi Herode as well as Tourbillon. For movement, IMO, in TBs the line to reinforce is Bay Ronald, and it’s easiest to get him through either Son-In-Law (pure stayer) or Hyperion.

If you can find a mare with Santa Claus, he’s Matchem line and a notable jumping influence.

Another thing to look for, if you can find it, is a horse with a crossing between My Babu and Blue Peter in either direction.

For a sport horse, avoid any more ND and Mr. P.

To be fair he is quite typically built for a TB over there - Hansel especially seems to be a good favorite among the event crowd and does seem to sire a good build. For a horse in Ireland he does have a fair preponderance of RAN which surprised me, but I can’t say I am an expert on what they breed over there. The sprinters in the US are built a little different but there are tons of TBs over here of his build and quality.

If you could find something that has Missy Baba, you’d be able to linebreed to several of the stronger names in the pedigree – including Tourbillion and Son-In-Law. You can get Missy Baba through Raja Baba, who is quite popular over there.

Hey, he has Well Decorated as a dam-sire  I recently started a thread on a mare I have will Well Decorated as a dam-sire, she is lovely, also with a fantastic build
