Spoiler Alert -- Last Swim Ever?

OK so NBC TV has been announcing Michael Phelps last swim ever tonight. Relay. But apparently it’s already over? CBS says watch tonight live but NBC has no swimming listed for tonight.

What’s up with that?

NBC Olympics.com is so wacky anyway. Not a big swim fan but would be nice to see the big guy go out with a splash.

I just got an alert for live swimming on NBC tonight at 8 pm (right now), including Michael Phelps last swim.

His performance at this Olympics isn’t splashy enough for a final event? What more do you think he needs to prove before it’s enough to retire on?

Thanks, BAC. Like I said, I’d like to see him go out with a splash. Live, not a replay.

I just heard the interview with his coach. How much do we wanna bet he will be back in Tokyo?

Halt Near X, I don’t get your questions. I don’t think you got mine.

Hmmm… I’d hazard a guess and say no for Tokyo. 4 years is a long time.
He is 31 now.

I think he went out appropriately - another Gold in the men’s medley where he contributed the butterfly. US has never lost that race.

Ack, this thread needed a “Spoiler Alert” in the title!

My stations are showing soccer on one, and women’s track and field on the other, bouncing back to swimming.

Oops, apologies, keysfins. I just edited my post. That is how I felt when NBCOlympics.com wasn’t showing the final live and had results posted.

Sorry! I did see the race, but for all I knew it could have been the evening re-play here on the west coast since they are ahead of us…maybe not.

No worries, it was still exciting to watch! Not sure why we didn’t have it live here.

He does sound like he’s ready to retire, but also seems to love that Medley Relay event.

NBC is showing the swimming replays now if you’re up. I can’t sleep so am watching it sort of. Cute tweet from Cody Miller on Twitter.

I just realized today watching replay of his interview with Bob Costas, it wasn’t his last swim at all – give them 3-4 years and he will be racing Boomer in the pool!

Michael gave an emotional, from he heart, retirement speech at a press conference…he is d.e.f.i.n.i.t.e.l.y retiring, wants go go home, be a dad and partner and no doubt take care of business.

I saw it. I didn’t hear him say any of the above, but he did sound sincere. And like I said in a previous post, by the time 2020 rolls around he can be swimming with Boomer, racing him, and who would leave that pool for an Olympic one?
