I know Spokane has very little in the way of hunter/jumper barns, but I am still hoping to find something. I actually live in Airway Heights, so Double Eagle Stables is too far away, and Gary Striker moved to California. Does anyone know of any others?! The catch is I don’t have my own horse and I can’t afford lessons so I would have to be a working student (I have experience as a WS). Please let me know if you know of ANYONE (besides the two I mentioned) who teaches jumping in the Spokane area. Thank you!!
Would you consider riding with an eventer or does it have to be an h/j barn?
Hi! I live over in Cheney, but not really Cheney. We are off the Medical Lake exit where the McDonald’s and Petro station are. At least for a few more weeks till we move onto our new property down below Cheney. We pretty much do every thing in Airway except for work! We have only lived up here for about a year and a half. I’ve been at 2 barns while here though I don’t know that either would have working students as both have outside trainers. I started out at Spokane Sport Horse just over off Sherman and am currently at Medicine Horse which is off Cedar nearish to Cheney-Spokane Rd. There is a barn called Westar behind Medicine Horse. I’m not sure what kind of trainers they have in right now. We have 2 great trainers at our barn. Julie is the H/J trainer and is great to take lessons with and then we have Sigrid the dressage trainer. Julie actually has a couple horses to take lessons with. I don’t think Sigrid does. Over at Sporthorse Robin is the H/J trainer and then there is a smaller trainer and also a dressage pair but I don’t remember their names. Unfortunately the H/J scene around here is quite smaller than what I’m used to where I’m from! I can give you both Julie and Robin’s #'s if you wanted to contact them and see if there is any way to work of lessons. You never know! Other than that I’m not too familiar with other english barns outside of Double Eagle (though her property is for sale) Maybe someone that has lived here longer would have more suggestions. Also if you want to do some thing fun- When Sport Horse has their events they are always looking for fence judges. It’s a volunteer thing but it was fun when I did it last year! Also a great way to meet other people. There is one coming up in Oct and there is also one more H/J show out there in Sept. There is a facebook page for it as well. I’m always open to new horsey friends! I can’t help you out with a rideable horse since one is my old man that is retired and I’m very picky about who can get on him and the other is my new OTTB. But if you come out to the barn sometime let me know and I can try to meet you!

I would be fine with an eventing barn, but if you are talking about O’Neal farm, it is too far away.

I called Medicine Horse and was told that the trainer already had all the working students that she needed, but if that’s not the case, please pm me. Also, I was never able to talk to the actual trainer, I tried calling but never got a person. I have talked to Robin at SSHF, but I am not sure that that will work out.
I’m not sure that either trainer has any working students at Medicine Horse. If you want Julie’s number to try contacting her just let me know! If I see her I can ask her as well. I know there has to be more trainers around, I’m just not exactly sure where! Julie also works at Foxy Horse and Hound on Sundays usually so you might be able to catch her there or if you get the owner instead she may be able to give more trainers as well.
