Sporthorse TB Stallions in CA?

I think you’ve had some good TB recommendations and a couple of good WB ones.

Might I suggest before you seriously consider Redwine that you do a search on Jill Burnell here. Even if there were no issues with her, Redwine is not a horse I’d breed to expecting to get a Prelim horse. I don’t think he ever showed 3’ or if he did, not much. Just saying…

Noble Houston

FWIW in this discussion- I have a Noble Houston baby. Not really baby, six year old. She is fabulous, gorgeous, and athletic. I am an amateur adult hunter rider however my eventing friends have loved her as well. She is easy to deal with, loves to work, and did I mention beautiful?
As full disclosure I do not know the people who stand him now and have never communicated with them. So I can’t speak to that piece. Only can tell you I have a Noble Houston baby that I love and has been one of the nicest horses I have sat on in my 30+ years of riding and showing.

After reading that recent thread I was very turned off.

Are you in northern or southern CA?

I am good friends with Ellen at Victory Rose. She has some wonderful new stallions on this breeding season, including Bold Chieftain whom I love. She is wonderful to work with and totally honest (which I find is harder to find these days) and your mare would be in good hands while there.

Even Ellen has told me that its too bad I’m not breeding my mare as she and Behrens would be great together and he is such a fancy mover.

Check out her website and you can see all her stallions. I’m typing on my phone so can’t switch over it it. Www.victoryrose.com

I find it important to stick with people with good reputations as well as registered stallions. Good luck in your endeavours! Its so fun to plan for future show horses of our own.

I would suggest stearing clear of the farm that had Comet Shine, and currently had Noble Houston. I was booked to Comet Shine last year, and lost a lot of $$ for nothing. Very poor communication on the SO’s end, and I never even got a shipment of semen. I had to threaten with a lawyer to get the stud fee back (even after she had declared the stallion to not be shippable). I’ve spoken to a couple other people on COTH and they relayed similiar stories with the same SO.[/QUOTE]

I would also steer clear of any dealings with Airdance. Most people from the area or who have had dealings with that place know this. It’s a matter of time before it all comes to a head, like the Burnell thread.

The honesty/integrity of the stallion owner was something I hadn’t thought about since I was focused only on which horse could be a good match for my girl. Sounds like it’s a good idea to talk to others who have used the stallion in question before booking a breeding. I think the whole process is probably anxiety producing enough (did she take, are things going OK etc.) without having trouble with the stallion owner.

I’m on the central coast, near San Luis Obispo, about 1/2 way between LA and SF.

Sea Lion is an Advanced eventer based in CA (jc Sea Elephant), and is half sibling to Sea Lord, Grand Prix dressage horse in training with Silva Martin. Not a lot of info on him on the website, but if you email Pam I am sure she will send tons of pictures and info, quite a few Youtube videos of him as well. She had talked about standing him in 2012, I would email her and see if she still plans to.

He’s twenty-eight. If he’s still breeding, he would be nearly a miracle.

I have sent them an email and will post if they respond

He covered mares in 2010, but no foals. No report in 2011. He does have a 2012 stud fee on the website

I remember this mare. I was actually going to look at her, was actually up in Morro Bay for the night before visiting her when I got the call that my offer was accepted on a different horse. I believe she’s also RPSI approved.

You’re so close to some nice warmblood stallions, they might be worth a look! Take a look at what Fantasy Farm has to offer… A Trakehner might give you the “bloodiness” you want without risking a grade TB. You also have access to the La Silla stallions through Pollyrich.
