Sporthorse-type Knabstruppers

This is more for my own knowledge to keep track of studs.

Who are the Knabstrupper stallions available in the US (fresh or frozen) that are of the more Sporthorse type? Especially stallions that have more eventing progeny.

Who are the Knabstrupper stallions that pass down a strong and correct hindend and good canter?

I figured this is timely thread because of Colorado’s great performance at the 70 day test. Congrats Equine Reproduction!

Colorado Skrodstrup is certainly one of them. Also available still through a limited amount of frozen semen is Apollon.

Also available in the U.S are Upal, Pegasus, Ravaldi, Ecuador, Halifax Middelsom, Xhogun Middelsom, Helios av Independance and Stavsdal Lobi. Most of these are available only through frozen. Pegasus is available fresh.

And if you are interested in breeding to a Knabstrupper stallion, please do check very closely to make sure that the stallion that interests you is actually approved. There are several stallions being advertisted as approved that are, in fact, not.

Thanks for the list, Sonesta!

I am particularly interested in Colorado, Upal, Xhogun, and Stavsdal Lobi for an eventing offspring. However, there’s very little information on those stallions, like what mares they cross best with, what they improve, do not improve. Hopefully, in the next couple of years we’ll get more information on Colorado.

Do you have any information on these stallions?

If you PM me, I can send you email addresses for the owners of the stallions so you can question them directly.

Lobi has an event history,

Lobi himself was at one time ranked as an advanced event horse. He’s 22 yrs old now so obviously he no longer jumps.

Ravaldi is a show jumper and has great babies, he’s the sire of Cita Normark, and several others.

Ecuador does jump but not as competitively as Ravaldi. He is a full brother to Colorado, but is a few spot.

Halifax Middelsom has done some jumpers, he’s only 4 so not a whole lot yet.

And there is still some Apollon semen around.

If you want to email me or pm me I can give you more details.
Yours

I don’t think that there is any Xhogun semen left (as far as I know), but I believe Ena could be persuaded to have him collected and frozen again.

I don’t think that Helios is actually standing at stud, but I might be mistaken.

Halifax is available through fresh.

There is also Harlequin Middelsom, but he is for sale and I don’t know his current availability.

If enough people got together to make it worthwhile I think Niels might be persuaded to get Fairbanks collected and frozen.

Atlantis is available here fresh, but he does not have much of a jumping record.
Sheik of Hallundbaek recently passed his approvals, and is a good jumper, but who know if he will be available at all.

That’s most of them.

Sheik is available. You can contact his owner through her website: http://www.larenstud.com
Having spent several days with this boy, I can tell you first hand he is very nice. Fantastic mover and a great jump!
He’s fully RPSI approved and branded as well.

He also has a Breyer horse modeled after him.

I forgot one

Leofric the Dane, he’s a super jumper (only down the chute so far), he’s also very elegant and a nice mover. He has no spots, so someone who wants the Knabbie mind but not the color could use him.
He lives in Bridgewater not far from Harrisonburg VA.

I believe there is still Xhogun semen here in Australia… or was last year anyway.

Er no he isn’t.

Sorry, he is not RPSI approved, RPSI say that he was never even presented, so that is not true.
And that brand is a K which is KNN, NOT RPSI.

There is also a stallion in Canada whose name I have forgotten.

Also available frozen in U.S. is Upal.

Thanks for bumping this up, Sonesta. Does anyone have more get they have pictures of? I think it would be nice to see.

I’m breeding to Colorado in about a month because I won the breeding bid for him. One of the things that made my mind up was Anguisette sending me some video and pictures of a stunning boy and his mom by Colorado (I’ve seen him for sale on warmbloods for sale.) It really made up my mind. I could see he added movement to themare, and size. I was worried I might lose movement and end up with too short. I would post the video and pictures, but I don’t want to do so without her permission.

It’s really nice to see what the mare has and produces with the stallion, as with Belambi’s.
