I did a quick search of the forums but didn’t come across much - recommendations for sports bras for sitting a working trot (average chest size)? Reviews at Dover, etc. don’t seem to be super helpful.
I thought my sports bra was adequate, and then, welcome to dressage! Ha!
Not sure what you define as average but I love Panache Sport- I converted one of my trainers to it since it held up to some less than spectacular riding on my part. Freya Sport, Lynx, and Enell all get rave reviews from other riders.
I found the Shefit on facebook. Really impressed. The nice thing about this bra is you can loosen the band and the shoulder straps if you want to keep wearing it normally then cinch it up when you get on to ride. Even in the "keep the girls contained mode you do not feel like your wearing a corset.
Panache Sports - although make sure you’re in the correct size, as many women are fitted into bras a couple of band sizes too large and a couple of cup sizes too small (i.e. a friend who swore she was a 36B now wears a 32DD in the Panache Sport and loves it).
Breakout Bras has a decent page on finding your UK size; A Sophisticated Pair has a useful calculator.
Panache. I love it. I wear the underwire because I’m… blessed? but they’re making a no underwire one now too. I like that it has a J hook, so I wear it with straight straps (slightly looser) when I’m working around the barn and then hook the straps to add compression when I ride.
Enell is probably THE strap them down bra, but I can’t wear it all day.
I bought this on recommendations from this forum. Great no bounce, but you can see the seams across the boob through thin sun type shirts. The cup has a lining so the seam does not rub. The band that goes around the underpart of your chest is wide and can roll up instead of lying flat. I like the wide shoulder straps as well, no gouging. Washes well.
I’ll second these options. I have both - the one on the second link doesn’t let the girls move, but I find the band flips and is a bit too uncomfortable to wear as an all day bra.
I also have a Panache bra - it’s my favourite everyday bra, but I don’t find it supportive enough to school a horse in. Probably because I’m short - to make the bra supportive enough I need to attach the clip thing at the back to make it a racer-back, but then the straps put too much pressure on my collarbone/shoulder. But I wear this bra to work all the time.
Oh boy. I generally get Champion or other lined sports bras at Kohls - when I find one I like (then I buy a bunch because it’s rare - I hate uni-boob). The last batch I purchased was not a sports brand but the “sports version” of that brand (I can’t read it on the label right now). Non-elastic or minimal elastic straps for support and a prefer an underwire but not necessary. Must have a clasp in the back. I went to a jogging store and purchased a white sports running bra so I could wear it under a show shirt with jackets waived. I tried on one without a clasp. I NEVER was so close to asking the store helper to help get me out of a bra before! Total embarrassment stopped me. It took me forever to wriggle out of it. I am also pretty average size (34 C, risking TMI) and good regular sports bras as well as “X” straps in the back work for me.
Another vote for the Anita5527. So comfortable and it isn’t as hot as some of my others. They also come in larger sizes. I’m a G/F and can get them to fit without having to cut down the band.
Haven’t tried the above recommended, but what works for me is a stretchy Target quality sport bra over a regular underwire. It’s the same premise of combining compression with encapsulation that most better sport bras achieve, but cheaper. Any probably already in your drawer. Might get the girls under control while you shop for a more elegant solution.
I’m not terribly busty (C cup and just average everywhere) and cheap sports bras weren’t doing it any more. I was on the fence about ordering one of the She Fit bras for months because of the cost. I now own 3 and I won’t wear anything else for riding. I was so sick of contorting myself to do up back closures or trying to pull bras over my head. Like another poster said you can cinch it down for riding and loosen when your done which is nice.
I also love the colors they come out with every few months. It’s a serious sports bra but the colors make them seem less “shapewear”. The Shehero color makes me feel like I can conquer the world
I second this. Champion sports bra, combined with basic underwire. surprisingly I do not find it uncomfortable, and sometimes on show days, I forget I have two on.
So much depends on your individual body and preferences. I can’t wear underwire bras, and I’m busty but small around. So some brands that others swear by don’t work for my build. Shefits and Enell don’t work - any bra with no cup size tends to be wrong on my body. Champion has worked best for me, but it has to be one of their maximum support models. If you can can, go visit a sporting goods store, or a bra store. We have a factory outlet store that carries several brands including Champion and Walcoal. So a chance to try on and bounce hard in the dressing room.
