Sprenger B-ring: Anyone used one?

Anyone ever used one of those nifty-looking “B-ring” bits from KK/Sprenger? While talking to a judge today, she mentioned that they are somewhat similar to a baucher but with some slight differences that might be beneficial for my horse at this point in his training. I’d love to hear what others think of these, especially how they stack up against something like a baucher and/or a full cheek.

I used one for a while – didn’t notice any difference from the ordinary baucher, except that the B-ring is prettier (and not legal for eventing dressage, at least at the time).

Yes me. I originally purchased for a horse that used to slightly tilt. We tried everything to fix it to no avail. He was ridden in a Sprenger KK ultra so I thought I might try something with a more fixed mouthpeice and sides but with the same mouthpeice so put him in the Sprenger B bit. I did not expect a miracle but it happened. He was immediately fixed. He used that bit until i sold him on. I then put it on my Welsh cob stallion whose only issues were that he could get strong at times. He had also been ridden in a KK Ultra. It suited him better although did not do much to change the strongness (not that i had expected it to). He was just better in it. My stallion has just been retired due to an injury so i decided to try it on my welsh cob x TB dressage horse who was making the transition from 1 st to 2 nd level. He had been ridden in a Happy Mouth Boucher with a peanut centre. He had no real issues But I was at the point of needing more engagement so thought it an ideal time to step up to a big boys bit now that the stallion did not need it anymore.
The difference has been huge. Hes been in it 6 weeks now and the connection And engagement has been improved hugely. Although the mouthpeice is the same as the Ultra the boucher ring In combination with a fixed mouthpeice has made the world if difference. I have always been a Sprenger fan but this bit is a masterpeice for my horses.

Yes, I used one on my horse for several years. I was borrowing a friend’s B-ring and my horse loved it, but the action on it is very similar to the boucher and I wanted something that was USEA-legal, so I went with a Neue Schule Training Lozenge Baucher–basically the exact same as a KK bit on the inside but with a traditionally shaped baucher cheek. That was before the Stubben Steeltec Lozenge Baucher came on the market, but that’s an even cheaper alternative at around $80.

My horse has since moved onto a simpler eggbutt cheek, but I kept his NS lozenge baucher and am using it on another green horse.

I love this bit. Sadly it is not legal for eventing dressage as jn4j says, but I use it on my sensitive TBs all the time. Current horse is going in a Myler comfort snaffle Boucher which works, but I do find the butterfly really nice for the very sensitive ones and also like to jump in it

Like jn4jenny I have had both and I liked the Neue Schule Training Lozenge Baucher a whole lot better!! Plus it is 100 dollars cheaper. The HS runs like 198.00, I picked up my Schule for around 100. I used the HS first on my horse and he was actually worse, then tried the Neue and he was like instantly softer and lighter and flexed better, it was one of the miracle bits. I have the regular Neue schule bit for when he is ready to move out of the baucher, all my horses go wonderfully in this line of bits!!

from everything i’ve read this bit sounds like it could help me/my horse…but HS or NS…decisions decisions!

I love this bit. Sadly it is not legal for eventing dressage as jn4j says[/QUOTE]

Is this still the case? I thought I read recently that it was not OK - but in a quick search, I can not come up with anything…

I thought it was legal too. Do you know why it wouldn’t be? No leverage, all the joints are rounded…

I have one…really like it. I go back and forth with it…right now horse is in a Myler 02. Definitely a bit I like having in my tack box. Got mine used on ebay for 96.00. My only beef is that you only have a choice of a 5 or 5.5…5.25 isn’t an option.

If it’s still not lega(I think it’s legal only for “high performance”), Ilike the Steubben Baucher withAurigan/german silvern mouth piece w. bead, and ataround$75 it’s helluva cheaper than the Sprenger,

Has this rule changed, does anyone know?

I would like to try one on Sophie but AFAIK they are no longer being made.

I have one sitting in my bit bucket. Not sure of the size. I do not have anyone who needs is here, any more. It was extremely useful for a tense horse I had some years back.

Hey, @ASB Stars: any chance you still have this and want to part ways with it? pretty please!!!

I am so sorry! It’s gone!

@Pierogi, it appears the B-ring bits are still made … just not sold in the good old U. S. of A. for whatever reason. If you don’t mind the international shipping, you can probably get one in whatever size you need.

@Sticky Situation thanks! Have you seen them at a specific retailer?

@ASB Stars no worries! thanks, anyway!

@Pierogi justriding.com appears to carry them, and it looks like they’ll ship to the US. I’ve never ordered from them before, but if you really want the bit it might be worth a try!
