Spring CotH hunting weekend in Virginia??!

Seeking date input:
This CotH hunting has been such fun – introducing more and more people to the joy of foxhunting, at the same time, introducing CotH’ers to one another – let’s plan a spring-hunting weekend!!
Possible dates are Feb. 18 weekend, Feb. 26 weekend, March 3 weekend (with racing that afternoon at Thornton Hill) or March 24 weekend (with racing that afternoon at Piedmont.)
Discuss.
: )

I was just thinking about this today! I definitely would be interested in coming again. I’m pretty much open to any date at the moment. I just need to figure out flights.

I do need an excuse to use my new gloves and stock tie…

Feb. 26 and March 3 won’t work for me-I have to be in Sands Point, NY, for some classes. I reallllly want to come and ride/hunt. So either Feb. 18 or March 24 is best. Now, I need to a. get into shape b. find a black coat on eBay
c. practice walking and sitting gracefully with a tiara on d. get ready for funnnnnnnnnnn :-).

i would tentatively be interested in the March 24  ! I would need to be a hilltopper though!

Thanks for bringing this up, Betsy!

Betsy,
I’d be a hilltopper, too.

Either March date is good for me.

March works best for me this year. Will have to find out dates of our March Madness (our Hunt’s version of Virginia Hunt Week) and will get back with you. Probably will be 2 of us for 2nd field with our horses.

Thanks, Betsy
Alison

Eyeballing 3/24 weekend (Natalie should be racing City on that Sunday, at the Bull Run Point to Point, so we’ll do a tailgate!), with 3/31 as a rain-date.

Sprig?

I like the March 24 date. It gives everyone more time to get fit after the winter storms. (I’m still scarred from snowmageddon ) Hopefully, it will be warmer, too.

Cammie, you’ll have to watch out for “Dunstan’s Woods” forsythia bushes lurking ever closer…

I like the 3/24 as well… Now I just have to save up for it :)!

the 24th for me

Is this still formal hunting season?

I would be coming from California.

I have read the threads with envy and I love the hunt races!!

Saturdays are formal attire. Thursdays are ratcatcher, but formal attire is always correct, no matter what the day/season.

Natalie is going to race City? Then definitely the 24th. That horse is awesome.

Count me in.

I’ve been stalking these threads long enough! I’d love to come out, especially the end of March which my greenie will have a few more miles.

Count me in for the 24th…but if you get too full, I can do any weekend except the 3rd (Women’s Basketball conference finals that weekend).

Manydogs, if I can get away with wearing my frock, you can borrow my black hunt coat

Thanks, Hinderella!

Yes racing – Natalie ‘aged out’ of the junior division so we’re aiming her and City (Diplomat - a lovely son of Carson City) to the novice turf series, and possibly some ladies’ timber races.
Re: the big kufflefluff over frock coats - I got one for Natalie (a 17 year old sort-of working student/boarder/neighbor/mini-me) for Xmas. She does not have her colors, but she will be given them the instant she turns 18, and I wanted to get her a forever-hunt-coat, so I just bloody well did.
It looks lovely. She looks lovely. I asked the masters and they agreed - no one gives a rat’s hienie if your coat isn’t quite-yet quite-appropriate. They agreed that FAR MORE IMPORTANT is polite, interested, well-mounted, clean, and quiet. : ) (Wear the damned frock coat!!!)

Re: Nathalie’s Frock coat

This is what I love about Old Dominion. They care about the important stuff; What is the joy and passion in one’s soul to hunting hounds. There is nothing quite like it. Natalie is a Star, and we love her.

Hinderella, they love having you, you’ve got the permission, so wear the frock!

OK I just looked at everyone’s responses and the one set of dates I cannot do are March 24th or March 30. Mr Lesson 13 will divorce me if I skip his birthday for horses.

Maybe you need to be open multiple weekends (because you are superhuman I just know it

Lesson 13, where have you been? And why does Mr. Lesson 13 need two birthday weekends? Heck, in our family you’re considered on time if you remember someone’s birthday in the same month!

And I know that Old Dominion is wonderful and down to earth, so I will bring the frock coat!
