Springfield, MO -- Boarding and Training

I am moving to Springfield, MO in the coming months and I need recommendations for boarding and training. If there is any group that can point me in the right direction, it is the COTH forum folks.

My move from Colorado will be in the next few months, and I will be bringing my handsome OTTB gelding along with me asap. I’m looking for a good boarding facility where we can be amongst other sport horse types, and things like blanketing, supplements, and feeding grain will be looked at as normal practice and not cause for raised eyebrows. I am assuming care is more stall and pasture, and turnout is pretty standard in the area.

Preferably, I would love to be in a barn with other riders who want to train and compete, though it doesn’t have to be a “show barn,” per se. I am just looking for an atmosphere where people like to get out and do things, training and lessons are going on, and where there are maybe even other adults to talk to.

Is there anything else I should know when bringing my guy to the area? Things to be aware of, watch out for, or be prepared for? The idea of moving him out there is scary, and I want to know everything!

TIA for any advice and guidance!

I do not have much personal experience with this barn, but I have heard many good things. Stokley Farms http://stokelyfarms.com/

They provided some horses for our IHSA show one year that were nice horses. They are a hunter/jumper barn and the care seems good.

When I was horse shopping two years ago, I almost bought from Tuckaway Farms. I’ve never been to their facility but their horses were all wonderful and went beautifully in the show I met them at. I ended up not buying Thunder because he wasn’t the right match for me but he was a lovely pony. I think they post on here sometimes so maybe they can give better insight into that area of the Missouri.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out, and also to give such praise to folks you’v interacted with. It is wonderful to be in the company of such a supportive community!
