My SO and I are planning a trip out to Calgary this summer. Looking at prices for flights, it is significantly cheaper to go after Stampede, which I don’t mind as I’ve been before and he’s not horsey so he’s indifferent. However, I did really want to go to Spruce while we were out there, but looking at their website it doesn’t look like there’s any major tournaments at the end of the month. Do they still have other smaller shows, or is there anything to go and see/do there, or am I out of luck on that front as well? Thanks!

That’s everything they have…
You can still go out and look around the grounds, it’s always open to the public.
The North American tournament is the last week of the summer series and there are no tournaments (big or small) between that and the Masters in September.
The grounds are still lovely to walk around even with no tournaments, but they do tend to have more flowers etc around during the events. You could still visit the foals etc.
If you want to see some show jumping the local A show at RMSJ just down the road from Spruce has shows through July and August. They have 3 jumper rings and 3 Hunter rings. Obviously not the same level as Spruce since they only go up to 1.45 if I’m remembering correctly. But if you come to Calgary between Spruce tournaments and want a horse show fix they have lovely grounds too and a great pub in the middle of the show grounds overlooking the grass Grand Prix ring.
If you can wait, you could plan to go when the Spruce Meadows Masters is on. Lots of stuff to do in Calgary, but you will get to see one of the top facilities in the world during one of the biggest competitions. Tons of shopping booths, food booths…and of course, some of the top horses and riders in the world. Our famous Banff National Park is only an half and a half away too!
Thanks for the info guys!
The grounds are absolutely lovely to wander around and its really quite nice to do so when there’s no one there. I went in october a few years back for the first time and it was so beautiful - all the leaves were changing colors. Fantastic to walk around for a bit. And it was right before they covered the grass and there may or may not be a picture of me laying in the International Ring…
Anyway, if you can’t get there for a tournament, definitely go by and walk around. The store is always open too, so you can still get goodies.
