Spur Straps

I haven’t shown at a registered show in 20 years. Planning to do so this season. As I am gathering my show stuff, I started looking for spur straps. I came across my very favorite, the braided nylon type. I noticed it said in the ad copy, “Great for schooling!” This got me thinking. Are they declasse’ in the show ring? Should I go with leather, even though leather stretches, never fits correctly (I’m always between holes it seems, so spur is either too tight or too loose)?
Yes, I’m sweating the small stuff. My horse is fabulous and will also be a complete loon out in public. At least I can look good when I’m trying not to get bucked off. And lest you think, just skip the spurs, I’m showing FEI levels so got to have spurs. You should see my silk stock tie with hand-beaded pin that was custom made for me and exactly matches horsie’s hand-beaded browband.

I like the rubber ones best. But as long as they are tidy and not flapping I guarantee no one will be able to tell what kind you have!

If anybody is looking that closely at your spur straps, it’s probably the EMT and you have other concerns.

As long as they are clean nobody will care what they are.

I see you’ve met my crazy horse. Trailering up to coach’s for a few lessons this week and next. Should be interesting to see how he feels about leaving the love of his life. (I’m quite certain she won’t notice he’s gone.)

Me too! I love how you don’t have to mess with holes which are NEVER where I want them!

Good luck at the show OP!

In regards to leather spur straps, they do make this device called a hole punch, which would solve the hole issue. However, nylon braided or rubber are fine too.

Braided nylon all the way through GP. It also has the added benefit of not breaking as you pull it tight at a show…
