Spurs recommendations

I have a pair of roller spurs right now, but notice they’re starting to rub the hair off my horses sides. My horse is on the lazier side and my leg is on the weaker side because I took some time off from an injury. I know my leg alone should be enough to keep his energy and keep him engaged, but he goes really well in spurs and it makes riding a little easier on me too at the moment. I’m looking for gentle spur recommendations, like I said he listens really well to spurs and he’s a really good horse and I don’t want anything that’ll poke him, just something that’ll give him a little more gentle encouragement. These are the spurs I was currently looking at:

I know I included roller spurs in there, but they’re a different brand then my current ones and I wasn’t sure if these were maybe better quality, if that makes sense?

I have the Stubben ones you linked. Horse hasn’t objected to them and he has an opinion about everything.:joy: No unseemly marks and they haven’t caught on anything - I’d been cautioned about roller ball spurs and tails. The only downside for me has been the cost.

What about using a bellyband? I feel like that is helpful because you can get your leg stronger without fear of hurting your horse. Then your leg will (in theory) get stronger faster and you can forego the band sooner.

How about using a whip instead?

I LOVE using a dressage whip on my lazy horse. I combine it with roller spurs, but honestly I keep the spurs on my boots and ride most everyone in them. A dressage whip is a great reinforcement and has made a huge difference for me.

Thanks for your responses! They were all really helpful to me  Does anyone also have any spur strap recommendations? I’m using my really really old pair that looks like it might snap in half any day and I think needs to be replaced.

Thanks for your response! Do you remember what size you got?

The rubber Nunn finer straps are great.

The 15mm. I used black rubber straps, inexpensive, easy to clean, and didn’t stretch.

Second this. A dressage whip, properly applied, says “listen to the leg aid”. Doesn’t need to be harsh, just surprising and sharp.
