square saddle pad for saddle with forward cut flap.

Hi guys. I have searched this topic on the forum and have read some threads, but none of them are really current and I was wondering if there are any new saddle pad models out there that can fix my problem. As others have mentioned before, the problem is that most saddle pads do not cover the length of the horses back and the front of the flaps at the same time; creating pressure points (eg http://api.ning.com/files/EOwvXxPjrLdAilcUuDEmhvDR0g5Ar8MGc-Z6plZlbF21Po8t7njEGFO21T557J6qZEsJH6AjvbrkycPxU9DrFiUfzBjk7XfH/Blog_padtooshort.bmp ). I have found 1 pad at Schneiders with a spine length of 24 inches http://www.sstack.com/english_saddle-pads_all-purposeclose-contact/dura-tech-3d-airflow-all-purpose-pad/, that actually fits my saddle, but it only comes in black and white, which is pretty boring. Has anyone found any other pads that have a longer spine and don’t cost over $100 (as I refuse to spend that much)?

Thanks in advance guys

I have had really good luck with my Perri’s pads. The round part at the front of the pad is cut up higher. I’ll take a picture if it ever gets above freezing.

You can get a custom pad from this lady in any shape/size you want. Quality is great and they are priced very reasonably. I have 4.

I’ve got two bamboo fabric pads that are similar to a PolyPad, but have a suede-like top finish. The underside is a breathable fabric.

One is from Moxie Equestrian - got it at Rolex. They have since been bought/are distributed by HorseLoverz (too bad as you can’t buy direct any more). I love this pad! My forward/long flap Amerigo fits no problem. I spoke to the owner at Rolex a couple years ago and she said they designed it to fit even XC saddles.

ETA - crud. I just searched through Horseloverz and all the Moxie products and the saddle pad isn’t there any more.

The second is nearly identical and is from Fenwick Equestrian.

I recently ordered this one for my 18" 1AA flap CWD. Hopefully it’s long enough!

I’m willing to invest in the more of these pads if they fit and don’t shrink.

I’ve had really good luck with the PRI AP pads fitting my long/forward flapped 18" saddle.

They come in a lot of pretty colors, and wear very well.

High Point saddle pads come with a 23.5" spine and they’re custom. I’ve been wanting one of these pads for a very long time. I don’t know if the front part is forward enough for your saddle though.

Ogilvy also has custom pads in a Large version that might work for you.

The Dover pads work well

Adams has toklat pads that you can custom order in extra-forward. I have an 18 inch forward xc seat/flap and these are the only ones I have found that go under my entire saddle. http://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/Toklat-Classic-III-Custom-Saddle-Pads-P5395.aspx

Second Toklat - they fit my very forward flap saddle perfectly, last forever, come in a zillion colors, and don’t shrink (well, I air dry them).

That is the one I use. My saddle is an 18.5 seat, and I also sometimes have a side saddle (those are really long) and the Dover Rider Xtra Long covers it all

I have an 18" with an extra forward flap and these are my absolute favorite!! I have had 4 of them for years and they last and are really reasonable! The regular one fits my saddle fine, but there is very little “wiggle” room. The extra long adds two hole inches and are just perfect! Spine length on these is 25 inches!

Though their social media marketing drives me crazy… I did have great luck with Oglivy’s plain pads fitting my 18" extra long, extra forward flap saddle. I was able to have them done trimmed in my event colours (hunter green and orange) and they’ve held up quite well. Cost is just under $60can. With their newfound popularity I would just double check how long it would take to make/ship.

I like the Roma reversible pad. They have high wither relief and come out in front of saddle. It’s only about $30 and comes in cool colors…two colors- so you can change it up!

I have very forward cut large saddles and the toklat fit them well.

You can also order the Ecogold pads to fit. Their xc pad fits all my saddles and you can order the large in the square and they fit too.

I haven’t tried the Toklat ones yet to compare, but the Ogilvy ones work well with my 18" saddle with extra forward flap.

Thanks so much for all of the input guys!! I will def get one of the dover and I’m intrigued by getting a fancier one from Toklat or Ogilvy. Just to be clear (as their websites aren’t very helpful with measurements) are you guys saying that the both the square cut and eventer pads from these companies are longer or just the eventer cut ones?

For the toklat one, I got the xc cut and extra forward (2 separate options you can pick). I probably would have been fine with just the xc cut. Never tried the regular cut

For Toklat I thought the xtra forward was too much. Xc cut was enough.
