Squeaky Cart

I admit, I’m ignorant.

But I want to learn.

My Meadowbrook is squeaky. Where do I learn what kind of maintenance my cart likely needs? I’m guessing it shouldn’t be squeaky. To be honest, I can’t really hear most of the squeaking as I’m hard of hearing, but I’m told it’s squeaky, so here I come asking for assistance on all things squeaky. Do these things need grease? Some TLC?

Thanks!

Is it the wheels? The bearings might need greasing. Can someone pin point the origin of the squeak for you?

Good question. I’ll ask my hubby if he can narrow down the squeak. I figure something probably needs some grease lol.

The Meadowbrook is in good shape but has been in storage for quite some time after my friend lost her Morgan stallion she had it for.

My drum fan in the barn developed a squeak this summer --first I put on a new fan belt --still squeaked. My farrier sprayed the mechanism with gun oil. No more squeak.

You should grease the wheels after a long storage time. Old grease may have solidified, might have dirt in there to wear on the parts. Wheel greasing should be done yearly (on roller bearing hubs) if vehicle is used, twice a year if used often or over muddy ground, driven thru water often.

Wheel greasing is not difficult, just a bit messy. Wheels should NOT be rotated on the vehicle like automobile wheels. Antiques in particular may have worn enough that a wheel is “married” to that axle stub in it’s wear pattern.

Squeak is probably in the springs, but any squeaks should be found so lubrication can be applied to stop metal wear.

Driving Digest sells a good book by Dave Quist that covers vehicle maintenance and other carriage things, in an easy to understand manner.

Congratulations on your new vehicle!

Thank you so much.

I’ll check into Driving Digest as well for the book.
