St. Paul, MN

Anyone know anything about H/J barns/trainers in the area?

Fellow MN

Ok - just an fyi - St. Paul doesn’t have barns - I think you mean the area around St. Paul.

Try the Minnesota Hunter/Jumper website - www.mhja6.org. There is a listing of barns all around MN. If that doesn’t work, you could always try the CSDEA website www.csdea.org but that is more dressage and eventing.

Are you looking for a place to board or take lessons or both?

Uh, I think “in the area” means just that? Anyway, I did look at the H/J web site, but it’s hard to tell. Also, don’t know anything about traffic, etc. Probably looking for lessons/work/perhaps board, depending upon if our horse sells or not!

listing of trainers in Minnesota

Hi!
In addition to the MHJA web site, the Midstates Horse Show web site lists trainers that attend their shows in Mason City. Because it is so close, the Minnesota barns are very well represented and the final show of the season is held in Minnesota. http://www.midstateshorseshows.com/Trainers.htm. Good luck!

You could try him.

Although you do have to sign up, the TCCT List (on Yahoo Groups) is another good option. Lots of dressage and eventing folks, but someone may have some hunter/jumper suggestions. I live out of the Cities by a good hour… and I’ve only been at a dressage barn. Anyways, best of luck to you and I hope you’re bringing warm winter clothes .

A lot of people in the area recommend the TCCTList as a solid source of information for Hunter/Jumper/Dressage/Eventing crowds.

The MHJA website is really your best bet, with the map listing. You can also use http://horsestablereview.com/ You say you don’t know the traffic patterns, but you haven’t specified where you are in St. Paul or how much time you are looking to commute? Do you need a place with lesson horses? What is your price range? If you want to shoot me a PM I may be able to list off some places more specifically.

Check out Bill and Diane Nunn owners/trainers of Skyrock Farm. Just outside of Minneapolis I believe it is in Hamel, MN but don’t quote me. They have a website (just google them and it should come up I’m too lazy right now). I had my Landkonig gelding in full training with them for awhile and couldn’t have been happier. Bill is a outstanding guy and really loves the horses. The prices are great for the area as well. They have a busy show team and surely seem to do alot of winning, in both hunters and jumpers. I had a very young green horse and they were fantastic w/ him as well. I don’t think you can go wrong with them, I sure wish I was close enough to work with them  They also stand a couple of nice stallions and probably have adorable foals running all around by now, thats worth the trip to meet them alone

Thank you!

Skyrock is a quite far from St Paul, as is where I board, Alpine.

East side rundown:

I would check out Brookside, Mary Konu and Mary Armstrong run a nice business. Riders seem to have a nice time at shows and are friendly.

Arbor Hill is nice too, but is very expensive…gorgeous facility.

Carriage House is more of an eventing barn, and hosts H/J shows.

Silver Creek riders seem to do well at shows and are friendly too.

PM me if you want more details.

I don’t have any specific recs for H/J barns, but if you are in SP, def try to stay on this side of the Cities. Traffic is brutal trying to get “out west”.

I live in beautiful east St Paul & most stuff in the E metro is a really easy to get to. Even River Falls, WI is pretty close & very do-able.

Other posters give good advice about the TCCT list. Lots of good leads on there & helps you keep up with local events.

My little Trak Hat Trick was born up there at one barn and was trained in dressage at another barn. I’ll have to check her paperwork and see if those barns are still in existence. I do know that both had indoors, a must up there! I think the barn where she was trained also did hunter training as well.

OP was from 2009…just FYI!

Oh gosh, I just sent the OP a message because I didn’t even look at the date… darn it.

Sorry for the PM, OP!!!

I never knew there were so many COTHers in this area! Anyone want to do a COTH meet-up? I met a few people at Mason City last week.

I love when people bring up 5 year old posts in order to plug their businesses! Makes me laugh every time. Welcome to the COTH board, gerogegill14!!

SS, I’m in if we do a COTH meetup!

Count me in.

I’m not sure I want to reveal myself…
