I am relocating from Oregon to St. Petersburg. I am trying to find a barn for eventing or at least where I can train for it. I am having a difficult time. Does anyone know of anything?
Hey, unfortunately although a beautiful area with great beeaches, its pretty landlocked and most barns are hunter jumper oriented. Closest would be plant city/Lakeland area or dade city. Feel free to pm me for more info.
Agree with prev poster. Would just add Brooksville/Masaryktown area north of St. Petersburg. St. Pete doesn’t have enough open land for eventing. Also feel free to PM for more tips.
PS: my eventer daughter just relocated from Fl to OR
If you are living in St Pete, you can keep your horse across the Sunshine skyway bridge in Bradonton, there are lots of places to board there. Pinellas county is a long narrow strip of land and is the most densely populated county in Florida. Traffic is pretty awful…I work in mid-county, board my eventer in Odessa, FL and it’s an hour drive on a good day after work. Be careful where you live and feel free to private message me…there are two places I would recommend: Black Dog Farm in Plant City (has schooling shows, and a nice, dedicated owner) and Leah Khorstanian’s place in Dade City. (I am not sure if she is taking boarders, but she has a lovely farm with schooling shows and it’s a great place to XC school.)
Be sure to find a place that is dry- the rainy season is basically all year long and it can really wreak havoc on your horse’s feet.

Just be sure you don’t have a bridge phobia!
I will never, ever, ever drive that bridge!
That’s funny. What part of Portland?
Are there any dressage barns in or near St. Petersburg?

First Choice Equestrian Center- run by Bobbi Gutman
mid-county, close to St Pete
Tristan Oaks is run by Jill Hardt, who is also very good- but the traffic to get there is awful
