Stable View cancelled

Yes. The elephant in the room is KY3D. If they cancelled now…so would the other events (I know at least in Area II they would). We will have to address FH for the 5* in the fall as the spring event was supposed to be a test…but that is the least of our issues.

But riders at this level are not going to compete because of peer pressure…

unfortunately…I don’t think KY3D is going to make a call on that for another 2 weeks…so until that call is made, people will be looking at ways to thread the needle. I’m hoping I’m wrong and that they just cancel now (my personal opinion). We can deal with the rest later.

Funnily enough, I just saw Kim Severson post about riders being pressured into competing. I think it was on stable view ?

The pressure is to be prepped for later events. I’m SURE there is pressure to commit or not commit. If enough riders say they are not running…the events wouldn’t be held at all. That to me is slightly different. I think if KY3D was cancelled…there would be more riders fine with staying home.

I feel like we need to be mindful of what we may be unnecessarily exposing veterinarians to when competitions choose to run and need attending vets. If one vet ends up sick or exposed and has to quarantine it’s likely the rest of their clinic will have to as well, leaving fewer vets available to attend to emergencies.

Im absolutely appalled. NO ONE needs to event right now, no ONE. I don’t care if you’re aiming for Tokyo, life is more important. Global health is more important. Get over it, stay home, do your part. Anything else is just selfish.

It may be their livlihood but EVERYONE is in the same boat. We all have to figure out a way to keep working and hopefully not get sick or infect others. You don’t have to show to be a professional eventer. A few months off won’t kill you. Look at those who were suspended from competition and yet, they are still out there years after doing just fine.

I can’t believe this is even a conversation, when so many people tote on about Global warming and our future yet here we have something in our faces and some people still think they are OK to decide what is worth the risk to the public and what isn’t.

Let’s not forget judges, Ground jury, are usually older folks. They also have to travel to get to these events. Don’t think for a second we aren’t at risk, or we aren’t at risk of spreading this.

The tunnel vision is unreal.

I guess eventers not only don’t care about their own safety, they don’t care about the publics safety either.

@AMWookey that was a great post by your DH

Just for the record, Stableview is cancelling.

Honestly, I think because it’s just a bubble, the riders and even organizers to an extent just don’t get the gravity of the situation. I don’t think they are truly wrapping their brains around the severity of the pandemic which is why I’d really like to see FEI handle the whole thing more cohesively and say that runs don’t count right now, similar to the USEF.

Telling people they are assholes or stupid for not doing their part and staying home…well it might be true, but it’s hardly going to be productive in terms of convincing them to change their behavior.

Is there an official announcement anywhere? Just checked their FB page and not seeing anything.

I was on the officiating staff. Got the email a little while ago. I assume there will be an official announcement shortly.

Thank you for the advance announcement! So sorry that Stable View had to cancel their inaugural spring FEI but I was super impressed with their early announcement (before it was officially a pandemic) of refunding all entry fees to competitors in case of cancellation, and I know that they were only trying to thread the needle for running based on riders concerns about needing runs. They did the right thing, but I have been so impressed with them every step of the way. I will absolutely be choosing to support them as much as possible in the future because of these decisions.

Yes you’re right. Its just so frustrating when you want the world to be safe and recover from this well. Emotions are high for some us…

I’m with you on this one. I find it really frustrating too.

For instance, I am still at work today at my non-essential business despite all non-essential businesses in my county being closed. We have more than 50 people in this office right now. Most of us already have the ability to work from home, and last week they said they were working on getting the remainder capable.

But they haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I think they will today though. The entire front office of business partners is easily over 60. Heaven forbid we have an impact to our productivity (as if my productivity hasn’t already been impacted as I refresh Washington Post every 10 minutes).

Chatt Hills has also pulled the plug.

I’m in the same boat, at least at my office the people who are currently travelling aren’t allowed back until April 6th. Still, plenty here who already have been travelling…I can totally work from home too. UGH

Looking just at the numbers, and with countries and states banning any sort of gathering of groups of people between 5 -100…well, there’s surely more than 100 people/volunteers/contractors, etc who are needed to make LRK run, correct? All those in one space? (It depends on what the definition of ‘space’ is!)

My country initially banned groups of 100, and sports organizations were given the choice of cancelling or running the event with no spectators. Even a football (soccer) match which is broadcast on TV has more than just the players. It’s the doctors, officials, cameramen, commentators, etc all in one place. Unfortunately, some idiots tried the ‘we will just have 99 people’ strategy.

We are now in complete lockdown, with closed borders and only essential trips outside the home. Sports activities at all are no more. I’m happy for that. They started the shut down measures last week. At the moment, they are allowing people to be in the fresh air, because it’s essential for well being, but we must be 2 meters apart.

Is the ‘no spectators’ really an option? Not if you look at the numbers needed to run it (and figure out what the definition of space/group/gathering, etc is). It won’t surprise, or really disappoint me, if/when they cancel LRK. Not like Europeans can travel to the US anyway.

There are more important things in the world right now, and we have to take measures to assure there will be a LRK in 2021.

…and, I posted in the wrong thread. Meant to be in the Land Rover one. Blame stress and a soothing cocktail in the evening hour!
But, still, the argument holds for most horse trials and FEI events. Groups and gatherings are being restricted, so play by the rules and just hit pause so that equestrian events can continue in the future.

they may not have a choice to run or not to run because many states such are shutting down any gathering greater than 50 people. So unless they have some creative time schedule.

Maryland has just shut down restaurants, gyms, movie theaters and bars, no gatherings of greater than 50. 2 restaurants are already closing their doors in the area opting not to renew their lease. Tho I think in their case the business has been suffering for awhile. There are residential rental protections i.e. no evictions, I wish the governor would extend that same provision to retail space as well - many will not be able to endure 1-2+ months of closure. it sucks. it really sucks. I feel bad for riders, I feel bad for anyone whose livelihood is on the line - this might be worse than 2008.

I think it’s just a matter of giving everyone a little time to wrap their head around the idea of postponement or cancellation. The easiest decisions I ever had to make (first retiring, then putting down my heart horse) had obviously correct answers but they were still the hardest decisions I ever had to make. If that makes sense.

Organizers put their heart and soul into events and riders put their heart and soul into their riding goals. While they may know what the right decision is, it’s incredibly hard to pull the trigger sometimes. I am sure some of these shows, especially with dates in April and May, just had to have a little time to come to terms with the decision…and the evolving situation makes it very clear for them as well at a certain point.

Let’s have a bit of patience and understanding and use persistent persuasion to get these events to make the right decisions. It looks like most of them will come around in the end.

Think this thread has got ahead of the real world - there are now no Recognized HTs running in Areas III or V with no Schooling Show replacements before May. Area IV has yet to start but the XC Schoolings & associated Laine Ashker Clinic have all be cancelled. Just did as full a check as possible and have posted the updated Calendar on Area 35.
