Stables near Athens, GA for Shakerag members?

Hi all,

I will be moving to Athens, GA shortly and I’m now searching for a good barn there. I am really a HJ rider, but I have been meddling in fox hunting up in Virginia and I absolutely love it. Is anyone aware of any barns in Athens where Shakerag (the closest hunt club) members keep their horses? I am not comfortable trailering on my own, so sharing transport would be a plus, and I would love to have a few fox hunting buddies around the barn anyways. I’m familiar with some of the show barns in the area (Silverthorn, High Point, Four Seasons)…but totally clueless about whether any riders who keep their horses at these barns also fox hunt. Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Jefferson River RD

The Jefferson River RD area has several farms on it that are active members of shakerag and have trailers going to hunts. It is also a very convienant area to UGA.

All of those suggestions are good ones. The Cadiers own Cedar Ridge (Tom is an ex-MFH for Shakerag), and a current Shakerag Master owns Inyazura Farm. All super nice and welcoming people. Kelly Eaton, Shakerag’s professional whip, huntsman’s wife, and resident horse trainer, teaches out of Pascova Farm and is an excellent trainer and coach in the area. She’s evented through Advanced, has her USEF Gold Medal in dressage, as well as her “r” judges certification for dressage. It is a great group and you will have good fun with them.

A friend of mine boarded her old eventer at Inyazura and loved it when she was in pharmacy school 5 or 6 years ago. I don’t know if it has the same BM, a woman who’d had her own small barn and then took over management of the stables, or if the guy who owned it then still owns it.

And my friend was very particular. She switched barns 3x in her one year in Savannah. But she had loved Inyazura.

Thanks, all, for the great suggestions! I actually am familiar with Pascova and Kelly Eaton, but I was not at all aware that she was so active with Shakerag. Sounds like a great group of people. Can’t wait to get down to Athens and join in!

Shakerag is a fun hunt and I’ve had the good fortune to meet Kelly and her husband. From Athens you are also pretty convenient to Belle Meade Hunt.
