Stal Wilten references, referrals, reviews… the good, the bad, the great, … the ugly…

anyone had experience please share or private message any info, especially on imports WITHOUT trips to the barn…

I see A LOT of importers turning A LOT of internet only sales… where the only thing to base anything on is reputation… curious with peoples experiences…

any other referrals are welcome as well.

His page has a reference of GREAT horsemen and women in our industry. I’m not saying just trust that, but you can easily email Hope Glynn or any of those other people to see what they think.

Their horses are freaking LOVELY. They also have some AWESOME fences set up at home. What I would give up to go be their slave!

Other than that, I have no idea what they REALLY are like doing business with. I just know I see them all the time importing to the US advertising the people they are going to. Just ask some of those people.

I second asking their clients. I think they are incredibly adept at marketing to the US with their jumps and videos and having their riders school the horse’s in show attire. I really applaud them for being smart about how they present their horses and themselves.
I have heard that they are maybe not always the best deal pricing-wise. They have a horse for sale that I looked at at a previous barn in Europe earlier this year that they are selling for materially more. But I’m not really going to fault them for it personally, they’re running a business and they seem to deeply understand what the US market wants.

They have also began the “hunterifying” process prior to the horse’s import, so I can see how the horse they have put some time into would be pricier than what the horse was when they took it in. At this point, they have had it go with a hunter type ride and had it jump hunter type fences, so you are significantly better equipped to determine if the horse will make a good hunter in North America.

I will second that they present their horses impeccably! Beautifully turned out horses, beautiful fences, great professional videos. I love browsing their YouTube channel and have “subscribed” to it so I can see all of the new videos.

Sorry, no experience with them, but their marketing to the US hunter market is spot on.

I want to ride in that ring with the huge hedge around it. Love that jump with the little dutch shoes and the windmill.

Their riders have such an American style. Anyone know if those young women are from the US?

Their horses are so gorgeous. I’ve seen a lot of their sold horses show - Macoemba and Unico especially. Wish I had the funds to buy from them. That Demitasse mare is to. die. for.

This; I love the dutch shoe jump! I was in LOVE w/one of their horses who sold. he was expensive, but for what he looked like not as much as I thought he’d be (under $100k).

I haven’t purchased from them but I have had indirect dealings with Roy.

Many of the riders are US riders that go over to ride for him, sometimes he includes the riders name in the title like when Shawn Cassidy rode a few last year.

When I went over to look at horses I was going to look at a specific horse at another barn priced at 30E’s. While I was enroute the horse was moved to Stal Wilton and repriced to 50E’s, When we tried to go ride the horse Roy would not honor the original price. There wasn’t time for any ‘hunter’ training to have been put on the horse to justify the increase in price, they are simply premium priced. You pay for the americanized marketing.

I have not personally bought from him, but I have two good friends who have. One who tried it oversees and one who did not. Both horses are going well in the Hunter ring, and were honestly represented by Stal. Their prices are on the higher side, but each animal I have seen in person that came from his barn is a quality animal.

I am not someone who could ever afford one of these horses, but I think that is totally fair. Same thing with people complaining on the eventing forum about BNTs importing horses from Ireland and then charging more for them. You are paying for the skill of finding a suitable horse for the task instead of sifting through half Europe to find it. If you can do that yourself and find what you want, by all means do and pay less. If you want a more sure thing, only fair to expect to pay for that. You are paying for the selection/narrowing process as much as the horse. As anyone who has horse shopped knows, it is expensive, time and money-wise. And lots of people don’t have the eye to pick a prospect on top of that, especially when it is going as a jumper now. These “pre-selected” horses do that for you. That is worth $$$.

I know somebody who has also bought from them…she said they are super nice/quality horses but are generally priced on the high end.
