What is a good buy for stall mats? Any suggestions as to the best places to buy? Also, smooth edges or interlocking? I’m in Arizona if that makes a difference?
I just bought around 40 mats, the best price I found was $38.99. I have concrete floors in my barn so I just got the smooth edges and haven’t had any issues with them shifting.
The biggest price for me was the shipping cost. I am in the southeast and they all seem to be manufactured on the west coast. Shipping was more than the mats unless I bought in bulk. I personally would not buy regular mats because they shift for me and my interlocking ones do not. And I would not buy cheap mats either but any of the 3/4 inch ones are probably fine. the best price around here was buying from TSC at about that price but they were not interlocking mats. They did however have them in stock so no shipping.
Check around with your local feed stores. Buying in volume should get you some % off, most stores will give you a pallet price.
Last time I bought mats was a couple years back. Bought two pallets and paid $30 per mat.
Best price and quality around here- Central Fl.- was Tractor Supply. Plain ones no interlocking. But they did not give any discount for number of mats purchased.
I have interlocking 3/4” grid mats on top of 12” of crush. I do zip tie them every couple of squares and they stay in place.
My stalls are 12 x 14 and the cost was ~$300/stall.
DH bought them on line and they were delivered to his workplace so shipping $$ was not quite as bad but bad enough.
my first set of grid mats were only 1/2”, took a royal beating for about ten years and came from tractor supply. They were 3x5 and I could pick them up with one hand.
These 3/4” mats are also 3x5 and almost take two people to jockey them around, but they will be here when Im not:yes:
Odd, Tractor Supply offers…5%, 10%?? off if you buy a pallet of mats here. It’s not a huge discount, but still better than buying full price!
Once you buy the mats… these things are worth their weight in gold: https://www.sstack.com/ez-grip-mat-mover/p/21730/. (EZ Grip mat mover tools)
(Vice grips work in a pinch, but these things are much easier on your hands.)
And if you buy mats from TSC you don’t have to pay shipping. I wish I had bought their interlocking mats years ago. I just need mats for one stall and the shipping is ridiculous. Nobody else in driving distance sells interlocking mats. So i will have to deal with the crappy ones in that stall.
I also found TSC to have the best option. I put their 3/4” mats tightly over level crusher. I was’t in a big hurry and was able to wait for their $5 off per mat they do from time to time. I did 525 sq feet so nice savings.
I just bought interlocking 3/4 inch - 12x12 stall set for $300 from Cashman’s in Delaware Ohio. I picked them up so no shipping.
Paddock Wood that deal is almost worth driving to Ohio for.
If you are one of TSC’s members (free signup, no fees) you can get coupons. Cashier usually asks at checkout if you are a member, they note it, so you can get bonus coupons that ordinary buyers never see. TSC usually has a couple 20% off entire purchase coupons, a couple times a year. I see them both online and in newspaper flyers here. Might be worth waiting and watching for, as your savings can add up with bigger quantities.
Locally, Craigslist will have new mats to sell by companies, for gyms. Not sure if pricing is similar, never checked.
