Well done by jockeys, but there should have been earlier notice for them to pull up.
That was crazy! I wonder why they didn’t flag them down earlier, I thought a few would not stop in time.
That could have been horrible! I’m amazed that none of the horses crashed into each other as they slammed on the brakes. And the guy running for the rail… whew he almost had hoofprints up his backside! @Syrynx the article said they didn’t have a back flag man for some reason, one is usually stationed there.
Yikes. That could have been very ugly!
When that happens (very rarely) in the U.S. there are always outriders, and sometimes flashing lights, on the track to immediately alert the jockeys that there’s a problem. I’m surprised there isn’t a better system in the U.K.
Yes, I’ve seen that flashing light system in action at Saratoga a few times. You would definitely be aware of it, that’s for sure.
Do they not have outriders at the tracks in the UK? It seems like that would be a necessity at any race track in case something goes wrong. Because… horses.
According to the article, there was no way to get a flag man anywhere useful and there were none stationed anywhere.
Suspect the track will be adjusting their protocols and may be investing in some lights.
I wonder if their new protocol will involve having a big truck and a tow cable parked right by that tractor from now on. Just in case.
Wow!
That was scary to watch.
Such good horses, most of them were so well behaved standing there after they were pulled up.
The jockeys seem to have kept them together after the pull up, so they were comforted by their “herd”. The one fussing the most was alone.
At least that group of runners had brakes. Jocks did an amazing job.
They did. There was really not a lot of room there.
French tracks have lights and sirens.
Shocking that the track has no system to warn the jockeys earlier.
That could have been horrible. Well done by the jockeys and the horses.
Yes, especially since it’s a relatively new track.
They will surely get a warning system now. Thank god it won’t come to pass on the backs of dead horses or Jockeys. They were all so lucky that the horses could be brought back and stopped.
