This is a two part question, who are the associations that award the honor of stallion of the year, I know Celle and the Trakehner Verband do, but who else ?
And have any stallions other than Buddenbrock been imported to North America that have awarded this title, as I’m updating my web site and want it to be accurate.
AWS has a Sire of the Year. They award based on a combination of foal scores and performance results. My own Cadence was AWS 2011 Sire of the Year.
While not called “Stallion of the Year” awards, Oldenburg has the VTV Jumping Stallion Award and VTV Dressage Stallion Award. These are also known as the “Main Premium Awards”, and are awarded each year at the main licensing event to the best 4 or 5 y/o stallion in each category, based on the stallion’s own quality, performance results, and the quality of his first foal crop.
Edited to add that Feiner Stern was awarded the Oldenburg Main Premium in 1987.
White Star was named ‘Best Stallion of the Year’ by VhW in 1997, although I believe this award is for young stallions similar to the Main Premium award in Oldenburg.
